This article was from a newspaper in Troy, Obion County, Tn. and was sent to me by Mr. Ben Brewer. This is being posted here because Annis (Anna) lived here at one time. She appears on the 1840 census of Stewart co, Tn. with her husband Francis Collins b. March 11, 1791 S.C. Francis Collins died in 1844. OLDEST WOMAN IN AMERICA Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee Is in her 108th year. Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee is probably the oldest woman in the United States. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee April 17, 1788 and is therefore in her 108th year. Her husband, Francis Collins, was born March 11, 1791 and came from South Carolina to West Tennessee. He was one of the most noted methodist evangelists that was ever in the south. It is said of him that in one of his revival meetings such enthusiasm was manifested that there were in two weeks 845 conversions and 456 accessions to the church. Five children were born to Francis and Anna Collins, two of whom are still living, the eldest being a man of three score and six years. She has used tobacco constantly for fifty-five years and is as strong today as most women at the age of 45. Does anyone know or connect Annis (Anna) Collins? Hi: Looking for any info on Thomas Collins, born abt 1765 (not sure where), lived his whole life in Nansemond County, VA, died abt 1845. Married Anna RUSSELL 5/9/1801 in Gates County, NC. Sons were Graham, Elvy, and Thomas R. Thanks
I am looking for information on my great-grandfather's family. My great-grandfather, Daniel COLLINS, was born in Fletcher, Ohio in 1868 or 1869, the son of William and Elizabeth (Ralston) COLLINS. The family moved to the Montra, Shelby County, Ohio area around 1880. Daniel COLLINS married Ida Bell Davis in 1891 and she died in 1901. His second wife was Sarah Roush Allen. Daniel and Ida Bell had a daughter, Mary COLLINS Nesbitt, my grandmother. Census records indicate that William COLLINS' father came from Ireland. I have information on the Ralston family but none on the COLLINS family. Thank you, Darlene Kramer (bhr8456@bright.net)

Hello Fellow Researchers: This is the first time I have posted to this list. My name is Brenda Collins Dillon . I have been doing family history for almost 30 years . I have a website called APPALACHIAN MOUNTAIN FAMILIES which is a Tri-racial site with the Research of Virginia DeMarce online as well as a downloadable file in zip form. The line I am working on is COLLINS. I trace Meredith back to his entry record in Fincastle Montgomery where he enlisted 1776 along with George Collins ,David Collins, and Lewis Collins. These four are also found still together in Montgomery County milita durning the 1780's ( according to Kegley). I don't know if they are brothers but feel that in some way these four men are related. Meredith COLLINS married first time in NC to unknown woman and fathered two children, one being Bradley COLLINS ( note Bradley was an unusual first name for that time period and I believe it was somehow a family name) Meredith married second to "Polly" HOLLOWAY ca: 1795-6 probably NC ( no proof) Meredith and Polly moved and are found in 1800 on tax list in Russell Co. Va. When they arrive in Russell County they now have 4 children ( female,Bradley, John W.and Edward) Born in russell Co. Archibald b. 1800, James b. 1804, a female, Rubeon, William b. 1806. By 1810 they show up on census of Floyd Co. KY(later Pike Co.) Polly HOLLOWAY COLLINS d. 1812 Floyd Co KY Meredith with several small children took in a common law wife, Milly Johnson. To that union was born Merdy Johnson( believed to be Levi Collins)b. 1815-18. Would love to connect with someone also searching this line. She had come with the Moores from North Carolina. The marker at her grave was placed in recent years, when the graveyard was being improved. Probate records show that her estate was being settled in July 1829. There are many old graves with field stone markers, without inscriptions. NOTE: The above is the DAR version of Moore's Ridge.
