I've decided that _maybe_ most of what I have (which comes from my grandmother's memoirs written when she was in her 80's about a grandfather who d. 10 years before she was born) is simply incorrect. I might be completely off base here, however, I think your suggestion that the information gathered on COLLINS and sent out to all of us researching this surname, is "garbage" is an insult to the person taking the time and making the effort for the benefit of us all. It is the exact reason that some of us subscribe to a list in the first place! How would be know to contact someone directly if we don't know what information they might have? Often, just seeing the similarity of names is a clue to the next generation back and can give us a place to look. I, for one, am grateful to ANYONE who takes the time to post information that might prove helpful to someone. Dear Lori, I just read my Saturday mail and saw the information you sent and thought it was wonderful! My Collins line was from that area of SC, so it really helped me sort out and finally be able to discard some Collins names that I thought may have been mine. I haven't posted my information yet, because although it was derived from years of detective work and I know it is correct I haven't proven it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Hello! I am looking for family / genealogical information regarding the HOATSON and COLLINS families of MICHIGAN. In particular I am trying to get information regarding either Lawrence Collins (born in Greenland Michigan in 1844) or his wife Dolly Hoatson Collins. Dolly Hoatson came from Wanlockhead Scotland to Canada in 1853 with her father Thomas Hoatson. She had two brothers who became very famous in the copper mining industry in Calumet Michigan and Bisbee Arizona: Captain James and Captain Thomas Hoatson. She married Lawrence Collins in Michigan. Any historical information on these families would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to do research but unfortunately I live in Germany. Thanks, Jennifer Wiebers
