Have you contacted Samford University in B'ham? (aka Howard College - was renamed in the 60s, as I recall - they have a good section on past Baptist ministers in AL) Early MS records show these COLLINS: Charles, Dennis, Hedger, John, Joshua, Luke, Luke Jr., Nancy, Robert, Susannah, Theophilus, Thomas and William. Do you have any idea in which part of MS he was born? Carol At 09:47 AM 5/8/98 -0500, Pat D Fite wrote: >Would like to find more information about Powhatan E. Collins b 1825 MS m >Eliza C. Hi Mark, I dont suppose that your Larkin Collins is a son of Joshua Collins and his wife Elizabeth. Joshua was born abt 1770 NC and died 1832 Mobile Co AL. Pat patdfite@bigfoot.com
Hi, Mark and anyone else on this COLLINS line: Mark, I can't help but wonder if your line or someone else reading this might connect with mine. You had a Samual Abraham COLLINS born Sept. 12, 1863. I have an Abraham (A.T. or Abram) COLLINS born abt. 1822 (we think in AL). He married an Amelia HORAN in Pontotoc Cty, MS Dec. 25, 1851. I have gotten no further back than that & wondered if your Samual Abraham COLLINS might be connected? Abraham (A.T. or Abram) and Amelia COLLINS had: A. COLLINS - b. abt. 1853 Walter H. COLLINS - b. abt. 1854 Margaret Ann COLLINS - b. abt. 1856 Martha A. COLLINS - b. abt. 1858 William I. COLLINS - b. abt. 1859 Elizabeth (Bettie) COLLINS - b. March 1857 - my ggrandmother. They went from Miss. to Ark. and some of them on to OK. They may have originally been in TN. The really interesting part is that one of your names was Clearsie Cleo COLLINS. My Mother was named Cleo, and I always wondered where that name came from. Might there be a connection? Hopefully. Jackie
I am looking for the parents of John H. Collins. He was born October 20 1823 in Georgia (we think, his daughter said so) but I did not have any proof. He had several wives. Phedora, Cindy, Adeline, and my ggrandmother Martha White. It was said that he killed a Union soldier after the war and ran for his life. He ended up in Yazoo County, Mississippi. I know that he was friends with Martha's father, James White and they served in the Civil War together. I find so many Johns, John H. or JH Collins that I don't know where to look. I found a marriage bond that was wittnessed by John for a James R. Collins. Can anyone shed some light into this dark tunnel for me. Thanks, Carol Willis
Hi, Don't have anything on your ancestry, sorry. I do, however have the name Jennie running through out my Collins/Lewis line. Joseph Collins oldest daughter was named Jennie. She was born between 1850-1860 in Alabama. Joseph's father was Joseph Collins born in Norht Carolina, and married in Georgia to a BAGGETT, also from North Carolina, Joseph had a brother named James. They were both born 1770-1780 in North Carolina, and moved to George, and then to Mississippi/Alabama. I bet that we are part of the same line. There is another Jennie, my g g grandmother, Jennie A. Lewis, a neice of the 1850's Jennie Collins. What part of Mississippi did your family move to? I would like to try and help you find out some more info, because I am in high hopes that we share this line. Did your family by chance happen to go on to Arkansas? I've seen a lot of Collins' folk posted who have been in the States for quite awhile. Is there anybody related to a Collins' family member who would have "just gotten off the boat" from Ireland in the 1880s? I'm looking specifically for those from County Cork, Ireland. My grandfatherly ancestors were named Timothy Collins (all three generations of them). Two generations of them made it to New York City during the famed Blizzard of 1888...or so legend tells. If anyone else has a similar story, please let me know. Thanks for listening, Dennis Collins

AINSWORTH, Eliza G. Looking for the parents of Eliza. Below is some information that may or may not help. She may be the sister of Asberry (Asbury) Sebastian Ainsworth and Jeptha Patterson Ainsworth. Need lots of help. Thanks It is believed that the Collinses went to Texas with Eliza's relatives, the A. Sebastian Ainsworth and Jeptha Patterson Ainsworth families. The tow families were on record as having arrived in Texas on the same day as the James P. Collins family. A. S. and J. P. Ainsworth were probably brothers of Eliza Ainsworth.
