    1. LIST ADM: COLLINS_PLEASE READ - Blocking Attachments & HTML
    2. Craig Beeman
    3. "Hello again Fellow COLLINS Family Researchers & possible Cousins!" Might you be posting your messages using HTML? Or might you be posting your messages with an attachment? If you are, or if not certain, be sure to read this entire message! If you now know that you do, please be so kind as to change your e-mail program to send only standard .TXT messages to the COLLINS Family Mail List as HTML does cause problems for some of our list subscribers, and soon may be causing complications for you as well! PLEASE SEE BELOW! If you might not be familiar with how to do this, may I suggest visiting the following site with your web browser: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm to see if something therein might be of help in doing so. Why is this necessary? > > Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AS WELL! That's because the poster may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you suddenly start getting messages from YOURLIST-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. This change is not currently something the listowner can turn on and off. Attachments will be blocked from every list alike. This might not be to the taste of some listowners, so we'll consider closely whether it would be safe to make it an optional setting. Thanks to Marc Nozell for finding the SmartList patch that was used as the basis for this fix! Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative volunteer sysadmin and general hacker > > Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and participation in the COLLINS Family Mail List! Mildred can be found in the 1870 census of Stokes Co., NC with sister Eliza Jane and mother Diana (unknown maiden name) Collins. Notes in an old family book indicate that Mildred's father and Diana's husband was William Collins. Later, Mildred married Thomas Flenoy Dillon who was born 1851 and died in Sept. 1918 in High Point, NC. Any help with this brickwall would be appreciated. Thanks, Gary Shankle in Deer Park, Texas.

On Lucinda's marriage certificate, a Stephen Collins signed for her. We are not sure if he is her father or another relative.

    1. Too Many Johns? or same one?
    2. Researchers : I need help with a problem that might ring true with many on the list. I have been searching for over 30 years for the first wife of my JOHN W>COLLINS. He appeared in his father's household on census reports and in court records of Pike Co. til about 1820. It is then I figure he left the household to marry his first wife tho I could never find out who she was. A couple years ago I was sent a file and in the middle of reading it I let out a war-hoop ........There was the first wife. LYDIA TONER! ( since that day I discovered John Collins M Lydia Toner in Grainger Co. TN 8,1821...found "Early Marriages of TN" ) I was thrilled about this everything seemed to check out however a person using FTM has presented their family history and the CD says this John is the son of Griffin Collins ( due to fact that Griffin signed marriage bond ) My John W. is son of Meredith Collins and children of John found in a family bible are the same as those of John and Lydia Toner. The census of 1850,60,70&80 Tazewell and McDowell Co. Va/WV adds to the confusion as there is an entry of a John and Lydia ......and a John and Mary "Polly" both John's being about the same age, born in same state, and Living both in the area of Peeryville District. Also John and Lydia had a son named John Jr. and John W. by his first wife whoever she was also had a son named John W. Jr. My question is......since I was never able to find a marriage record for my John and Mary.....is it possible that my old gggrandpa was keeping two households going at the same time? Can anybody help me sort this mess out? John W. b. 1797 Va. d. after 1870 probably McDowell Co. WV married 2x's 1) ______2) Mary "Polly" Roarke/O'Roarke Children's name from Bible: Children of John and Lydia Toner (census) John W. Collins Jr. 1. John William Collins 2. Jacob Jacob Collins 3.
