Hi All: Has anyone run across a Robert Collins, born in Culpeper Co VA and died in Franklin Co KY on April 2, 1816. Wife was apparently Mildred. Father may have been JW Collins. Children include: Thomas, Dudley, Robert, Sarah (Sally), Nancy, Catherine (Kitty Kate), Edmund, and Richard. I descend from Thomas Collins who married Mary Ann Bourne in 1811 in Franklin Co KY. They has 12 children, all in KY. I have lots of info on their children as well as Mary Ann Bourne's family, but virtually none on the earlier Collins line. Robert joined 8th VA Regiment of Foot commanded by Col. James Wood in April 1779, served until November 1779, the last time his name appears on the muster rolls. Certificate was issued in 1784 for 18 lbs, 10 shillings and 1 pence for his service. He never applied for a pension.1801 Franklin County, KY tax list shows he had 140 acres on Benson Creek, 5 horses, 10 slaves and 1 son over 16 years of age. He is buried on what became the Carl Wilson Place just off of the Lawrenceburg Pike near Alton, KY. Robert doesn't seem to be a popular name in the various Collins lines - has anyone out there seen him??? Would like to find parents and siblings as well as immigration history for the family. Thanks for any help. Ann Hoskins-Brown
Looking for connections to Robert Hearn Collins c.1810 in SC Possibly Georgetown Co. Robert Hearn Collins lived near the Pee Dee River. I have been looking for information on the Day Family in Granville county, NC. My grandmother, Myrtle Flanch Day married Benjamin Kenneth Collins (abt. 1870-1915) on 16 Jan 1905 in Staunton, VA; however, she was raised in Oxford, Granville County, NC. (I think that they met in Oxford and eloped to Staunton.) Benjamin Kenneth's father was Benjamin Edward Collins who may have married a Laura (E) Perkins and, I suspect that this took place in Warren County, NC, where the Collins family lived in the last half of the 1800s--all is very sketchy.... Beyond these bits and pieces, I know nothing of the Collins family line that includes Kenneth and Edward. Anything anyone can tell me about my grandparents will be greately appreciated.
Cousins, A friend who was not raised by her parents and knows nothing about her ancestors is trying desperately to begin finding them. She only knows the names of her parents, Edward Gene EDMUND(b. ca 1892, MO), and Nora/Nona Louise COLLINS EDMUND (b. ca 1905-6, AR). Her mother, Nora/Nona, said she was born in Little Rock. They married around 1922, and it is thought they married in Arkansas, but I have no idea where, and apparently there is no state index. If any of you have time to check the marriage index in your county, it would be much appreciated!! We can not find an EDMUND family in MO at all, but have narrowed her mother's family down to two families - there was a third possibility in Washington county, but investigation proved those nice people not to be her kin. The two possibilities are in Carroll and Pulaski counties (1920 census info below) - if any of you can shed any light on either of them, either to encourage looking at them further, or to rule them out, it would be very much appreciated by both of us - this brick wall in this century is very frustrating and disheartening!!!!! A COLLINS family moved from NC to AR in or around 1905. In 1910 and 1920, they were living in Carroll county: 1920 Arkansas Census, Carroll County, Volume 6, ED 62, Sheet 5, Line 88 Colllins, William J., 45, born in NC Dora E., 33, wife, born in NC Jettie A., 15, daughter, born in NC Nora L., 13, daughter, born in AR Walter G. 10, son, born in AR John W., 8, son, born in AR William A., 5, son, born in AR Jesse A., 3 6/12, daughter, born in AR Also, in 1920 there was a COLLINS family in Pulaski county that had been in AR for at least a generation - Pulaski County, 912 Allis Street, Little Rock; Volume 54, ED 145, Sheet 2, Line 92 Collins, John, 62, born in AR, father in MI, mother in MI Norrie, 41, wife, born in AR, father in MI, mother in TN Lucile, 19, daughter, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR John Jr., 18, son, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR M/Nona, 16, daughter, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR Avanelle, 14, daughter, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR Herbert, 10, son, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR Anna Beth, 8, daughter, born in AR, father in AR, mother in AR THANK YOU for assistance, thoughts, connections, or anything!!! hihi all We're looking for our John Robert Collins who married Rebecca Middleton most likely in or around Green County, Ohio. We're not sure of the dates, but we estimate John Robert to have been born sometime between 1830-1860. John and Rebecca had at least 14 children, one of which was a daughter named Frances W. Collins who married Charles Talyor Tarpenning in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio. Frances and Charles had two daughters, Mae Tarpenning, and Helen Leona Tarpenning was b. 2/23/1895 in Xenia. Helen is my great-grandmother. We believe that Rebecca Middleton may be at least half-Cherokee. Another possiblity is that John Robert's mother was a Cherokee (or possibly Delaware) Indian. (Some of Frances's siblings still had strong resemblances to the Indian genetic paterns and Helen remembered her granmother as "looking like an Indian Sqaw.") If any of this sounds like it could be related to your research, please email me. We'll be happy to share whatever we've found or do find. Thanks. Have fun, Rainya Shingledecker-Wallner

Collins Roots Web Updated: http://www.infinet.com/~collins Thanks to Pam Hamberg Collins, this site has received a major "upgrade." Most importantly, James was displaced as the oldest known ancestor by his father Martin, and James' 2 siblings and their descendants were also added. Other than that, the "Unknowns" are no longer unknown, and 33 Collins persons were added to the previous 28. The family tree is turning into a forest! Thanks Pam! Pam also sent me a narrative history of many of the earlier Collins folk. This text is way too much for browsing online, so you can download the letter (in popular file formats) from the site. Easy instructions to extract the files are included, and is basically automated. This web site documents the genealogy of the Collins family starting with a Martin Collins, who probably lived in Claregalway, County Galway, Ireland (based on records showing Walter and Martin Collins renting farm land. Names Walter and Martin have been used by descendants. Martin's widow, Jane arrived in America ~1858 at age 58 with one of the 3 children (Hannah) she had with Martin and settled in Belpre, Ohio or Little Hocking, Ohio. A majority of the Collinses located on this site were/are based in West Virginia and Ohio (Cincinnati and Columbus) and perhaps Pittsburgh, PA. Other surnames appearing on this site are: Berger Bonekamp Brennan Callos Daley DeWitt Farley Gallagher Haley Hamberg Maley McNerney Newland O'Brien O'Grady Rainey Rex Sharrock Shea Shields Sullivan Tonneman Weiss Whelan Let me know what you think, or if I screwed anything up.
