It's been a while since I sent in this information. Hopefully we have new commers and someone will contact me. Meredith Collins b. 1760 (possibly Orange Co. Va) d. 1841 Pike Co. Ky. Parentage unk ( believe it is possible he was related to Vardimon Collins b. 1764) He joined Fincastle-Montgomery Co. 1776 under Captain James McDaniels( this record was found at Christianburg,VA, "Merdy" being 16 years of age entered RevWar with three other Collins, same day, same district, George, David, and LewisCollins) He also seved with these same Collins after the war was over in the Montgomery Militia under a Captain Osburn 1780's. Meredith had three wives( not sure of any legal marriages as no record has never been found) 1) unk, mother of Bradley and a female child; 2) Polly Holloway, mother of JohnW., Edward, Archibald, James, a female, Rubeun, William 3) Milly Johnson , mother of Merdy Johnson aka Levi Collins Meredith 's exsistance and location of where he lived durning the Militia is now the center of my search. I know he was somewhere in the Upper New River Valley along the Flatt River. I believe the reason I haven't found him is that he is from a Tri-racial mixture or Melungeon bloodline. I believe somehow the Saponi Indians are connected to this group of Collins. Anybody researching any of these Collins I wish you would get in touch with me. I am very interested in finding others searching the three men that entered RevWar with Meredith ,George Collins settled in Peach Tree Bottom.........I know nothing of David or Lewis except these Collins were always together from 1776 til 1796 Wilkes Co. Tax list. Meredith went to Russell Co. and the others went to Tennessee. Brenda Collins Dillon
Hi this is Jim Collins, I received an email from a lady who wrote me concerning the COLLINSes of SKIBBEREEN (co. Cork, Ireland). Would you please write back. I think I inadvertently deleted your message & wanted to respond. Thanks, Jim
Hello, Collins Cuzens: For those of you who haven't already checked out this site, the actual documents for COLLINS, and other surnames, can be viewed at The Bureau of Land Management: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Just enter your own zip code (explains this is for area counting purpose) & click on the state you wish to check out. Unfortunately, they only cover 11 states & PA & MD are not there. The COLLINS listings are limited to 200 "due to an administrative limit", whatever that means in a govt. office - so the COLLINS entries end at a John COLLINS - but I think if you plug in a first name'down further in the alphabet of first names', you may get your entry to pop up. One other good site I found is: Geographic Namesaver at - http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo self-explanatory, really, but just plug in the town and state - data pops up - or just the town and you get a whole bunch of same town name in different states. Good hunting - good luck! Shirley: bobert@panacom.com

Hi all, I'm Jim COLLINS. Have COLLINS on two lines. They are: 1) COLLINS of Ballylinch/Ballymacrown, Tullagh (Rath) Parish near Baltimore, south of Skibbereen (married BURKE of Ballyoughtra). 2) COLLINS of Gortacrossig/Lickowen, Castlehaven South near Skibbereen (married HOLLAND of same area). Would like to correspond with long lost cousins, or anybody doing research on COLLINS, BURKE, or HOLLAND in these parishes. Also would like to correspond with anybody doing medieval to early modern history in those parishes. Any information will be most appreciated. Would like to share what I know. Thanks, Jim Collins
Hi, I'd love to know about ALL Collins' that were in MISSOURI during the mid (1840/50) to last of the 1800s. My William David Collins was there & married there in the early 1880s. The bride & groom gave their residence as FIELDS CREEK TOWNSHIP on the marriage license (they married in Clinton, Henry Co., MO) BUT, I can't find my William on any census, deed, etc. ..... so perhaps my guy was living with another family since he was either a "hold out bachelor" until the age of 27 or had a previous marriage. He married Annie Elizabeth (Bessie) Ishmael. If anyone has a William on their list that they don't know "from whence he came" ... maybe he's ours? Soooo many William's & soooo little time to investigate all of them <grin>. I'm looking for information about a Margaret Collins who lived in Southeastern (Clay, Leslie, Knox, Harlan, Co., etc.) Kentucky. In the spring (approx. April) of 1878 or 1879, she gave birth to a son named John. I do not know the name of John's father. I was told she bore him out-of- wedlock. I don't know if Collins was her maiden name, if she had been married and then widowed/divorced. A relative stated they thought she may have had a brother named Cicero. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Robin

I was surfing last night and found this article. It interest me because my ggggrandfather was Meredith Collins and in this article is also a Meredith Collins. If someone reconizes the line this belongs to please let me know. Brenda Collins Dillon History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p. 708. [Harrison County] [Rutland Precinct] LEWIS COLLINS, farmer, P. O. Rutland, is a native of Jessamine County, Ky., where he was born Oct. 16, 1826, near Keene on Sinking Creek; his grandfather, John Collins, was born in Orange County, Va., and in company with Mr. Allen, the maternal grandfather of our subject, was in the battle of Bunker's Hill, where both were wounded; he was also at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, having served through the entire war, he often related to his family the joke that a darkey passed on the noted English commander at the time of the surrender. Upon being told that Cornwallis had surrendered, he replied: "He no more Cornwallis, Massa; he Cob-wallis now." After the Revolutionary war he came to Kentucky, passing over the Alleghenies, and continuing his journey down the Ohio River in a flat boat; he landed at May's Lick; came through to Central Kentucky; their party camped at the Lower Blue Licks two or three days after the at that place, which decided the fate of so many of the Kentucky brave pioneers. He and his son William were detailed as a guard at this place while the others slept; they passed through Lexington when it consisted of only a few log cabins, and settled on South Elkhorn in Fayette County; he leased 200 acres of land from Col. Bowman, and was offered a title to it for a wagon and team, but refused; he worked it during his lifetime, and had it in good condition, but his lease expiring with his life, his family could reap no benefit from his labor; he died in Fayette County in the sixty-sixth year of his age, and was buried in the graveyard of the old Baptist Church at South Elkhorn. Whitfield Collins, son of John and father of Lewis, was born in Orange County, Va., April 16, 1782; he was about six years old when his father moved to Kentucky. When a small boy, he and his brother went to Ryman's Mill; being compelled to remain over night, their horses were placed in a lot adjoining the mill, while they stood guard from the mill window. When about twenty-four years of age he entered the ministry of the old style Baptist Church, in which he labored until his death, Feb. 18, 1871. His career as a minister was a noted one, extending for a period of sixty-four years, having as his associates Ambrose Dudley and his son Thomas P., Matthias Gossett, William Conrad, and others. Like most of the pioneer preachers of his time, his work was scattered over a large territory, embracing churches in most of the counties of Central Kentucky. On the 1st of February, 1804, he married Sarah, daughter of David Allen, of Pennsylvania, by whom he had thirteen children, and with whom he lived for more than sixty years, she dying Jan. 5, 1865, in the eighty-second year of her age. Lewis Collins, the subject of this sketch, came to Harrison County with his father when three years of age, and settled at Rutland where he now resides. His brother, Meredith Collins, twenty-one years his senior, was the first resident of Rutland. Lewis worked with his father till [sic] he was twenty-seven years old, when he married Martha Ann, daughter of Samuel and Rachel (Boyers) Eckler, receiving from his father at that time thirty-seven acres of land, a part of his present farm; his early education was quite limited, and after his marriage, while erecting the house in which he now lives, he was taught at night by Joseph Miller, the stonemason who assisted him in his work; he has a family of seven children, the oldest, Samuel, born July 21, 1854, an active member of the Cynthiana Commandery of Knights Templar; his second child, Sarah, has been afflicted since here eleventh year, and is now confined to her bed all the time, and has not spoken a work for three years; Eliza, born Dec. 17, 1857, married to William Hannah; Mary Elizabeth, Jan. 19, 1859; Lewis W., Dec. 15, 1861; Alice G., July 1, 1864; and Martha Ann, April 28, 1870. He stood three drafts for the late war; was ordered into the ranks by Col. Landrum during the first battle of Cynthiana. Himself and wife are both members of the Mill Creek Baptist Church; in politics he is a Republican.
Hi, I just joined this list, and I am researching a Collins family for my Church's pastor. His grandfather was a Theodore Collins, born in Kentucky, lived in Ava, Missouri in the 1920s and died in the 1960s. His wife as a ____ Greybill or Graybill. Theodore was a descendant of one of Daniel Boone's wife Rebecca Bryan's sisters. We don't know which one and I have joined the Boone-l group to try to find clues. I'd like to find out the names of Theodore's parents and especially the name of the Bryan sister that he descends from. By the way, my wife has a Collins line, and when I have more time I'll post that query.
