I would imagine that your Henry is the same Henry and Ann COLLINS found at this website. Mr Cornwell contacted me last week, and shared his wonderful website with me, which included the INDIANA Slaughter J. COLLIN's family of the 1800's that I was looking for! Have fun! http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/r/Joseph-D-Cornwell-iii/index.html Valerie

A querie in a Feb 1988 North Carolina Genealogical Soc. Journal "Seek origins of Nathan PERRY, b ca 1803 Ashe Co., NC, md. 1833 Mary COLLINS in Grainger Co., TN; lived there until 1837 -1840, then VA (1987)"
I want to ask a big favor of some kind soul: I found in the 1850 U. S. Census, Warren County, Warrenton, North Carolina Page 29, Dwelling Number 386, James A. Collins, age 78, male and Occupation printer. I suspicion now that I copied the age wrong and that it should have been 28 instead of 78. If someone would check this for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I live in Alabama and will not be able to get up to N. C. again soon. (I am 85 and still researching). Many, many thanks. I am trying very hard to find the ancestors of James A. Collins, born March 6, 1822, Warrenton, North Carolina. Lee

I would like everyone to know about a match we've made on this COLLINS newsgroup! A day or two ago, I posted a message that I was looking for parents for my Slaughter J. COLLINS of Indiana, who was a Union soldier in the Civil War. Almost immediately I was given some information from Jcornwell@erols.com that his ancestor was Salvin COLLINS, brother to Slaughter!! And to make things even better, he has a web site with stories and the ancestors of this family all the way to Henry COLLINS born in England abt 1606! http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/r/Joseph-D-Cornwell-iii/index.html The line goes like this: 1606 Henry COLLINS + Ann (England) 1631 John COLLINS + Abigail JOHNSON (Lynn, Essex, MA, & RI) 1679 John WIlliam COLLINS + Susanna DAGGETT (Lynn MA,& RI) 1718 Ebenezer COLLINS + Sarah FLINT (Salisbury, MA) 1735 Ebenezer COLLINS + Mariah COLLINS (Southboro, MA) 1762 Ebenezer COLLINS + Annie STOW (Chatham, NY) 1795 Jonas Ball COLLINS + Eleanor BRISCOE (Berlin, VT & IN) 1840 Slaughter Jonas COLLINS + Elizabeth Comfort PEARSON (Newburgh, IN) had these children: Urie, Eula, Cora, Karr, Hixa, Phoebe, Blanche, Olive, and our ancestor --- 1892 Louis Springer COLLINS + Gladys ROUNDS (IN, MO, & Tulsa, OK) In just one email, I was able to find seven generations of my husbands COLLINS family! I had photos of the mid-1800's COLLINS family, but no dates or surnames. Now I can share these with Mr. Cornwell. Thank you Rootsweb!
To anyone interested....I have a long descendancy chart and lots of info on the descendants of John Collins and Susanna Colburn: son John Collins (1640-1704) born Boston, Suffolk, Mass who married Mary Trowbridge. These descendants mainly lived in New Haven, CT and Litchfield, CT. ....am glad to share information. If inqu9iring, please be specific about names, as many of them are similar. Barbara: Do you have a Zachariah Collins born about 1782, probably NC or VA anywhere in your long list of descendants? At the time of his death in Adair Co., KY, he was married to Edna/Edney. It is not known if he had been married more than once. Ruth A. Collins -- Best of wishes in your journey down the river of life. http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/l/Ruth-A-Collins/
Greetings Everyone! After months of lurking, I'm ready to take the next step. I've been working on the COLLINS side of my family for almost 10 years with slow results until last year. I would like to ask the group for any concrete evidence regarding this family: Oliver Commodore Perry COLLINS, b: 1830-Lewis Co. VA., d: ? -m: ? in VA. to Caroline M. COTTRILL, b: ca. 1835, d: aft. 1900 Their children (as shown in Gilmer Co.,census records): Maranda M., b: circa 1849 Andrew J., b: circa 1850 Jemina, b: circa 1851, d: 4-May-1906-Weston, WV. Issac Lon, b: 15-Oct-1852, d: 4-Feb-1941-Gilmer Co. William W., b: circa 1853 Mary M., b: circa 1855 Rachel A., b: 1860 Carolina Manerva, b: 1864 Ollie C.P. II, b: July-1866 My research INDICATES the following parentage: Oliver C.P. COLLINS may be the son of William COLLINS (1795-1875) & Elizabeth WIANT (1800-1862). William & Elizabeth married in Harrison Co. on 5-Apr-1819. William lived next door to Oliver in the 1860 Gilmer Co., census. Caroline M. COTTRILL may be the daugher of Lowther COTTRELL (VA.) & Arrena. IF...these are true, I have more information on these families & would like to talk to others from these roots. Looking forward to hearing from you! hihi all, I am looking for information on John Robert Collins, most likely married in Ohio or Indiana and probably born in Virginia. He married Rebecca Middleton. Their children included Frances W. Collins, who eventually married Charles Taylor Tarpenning in Xenia, Greene Co, Ohio. Frances is my great-great- grandmother. Other children of John Robert and Rebecca were: Arthelia, Martha, Belle, Xeia, Fanny, Nancy, Robert, Roy, Freddie, Russell, Clifford, Charlie, and John. I am sorry I do not have more specific dates or locations. This information was pieced together through grandparents and great aunts. The only clue we have to possibly distinguish this line of COLLINS from the myriad of others out there is that one wife or mother at some point close to Frances W. Collins's generation was a Native American woman. (Family stories have it as Cherokee. Martha apparently took after the Indian genetics strong enough to leave memories in everyone's minds and my great-grandmother remembered an "Indian squaw" in her house as a girl.) If anyone out there has any info on this family, we'd be thrilled to hook up with you. We've had luck with our other major surnames, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for this one, too! Have fun, happy researching, Rainya Shingledecker Wallner Researching the family names Shingledecker, Collins, Tarpenning, Hill, Horde Visit our genealogy page at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/h/i/Nola-J-Shingledecker/
Hi everyone, I and searching for info on my Collins line. I don't have a lot of info on them, but maybe what I have will ring a bell with someone else on the list. In 1870 in the Bell Co., KY census, my great great grandfather Obediah Collins (age 36 born in NC) and his wife Elizabeth_____ (age 19 born in NC) are listed in household #147-139. In 1880, Obediah and his young son Lewis (William Lewis) are living in the household of Jarvis Lovins in Clay Co., KY. It is possible that Obediah married again after 1880 in Clay Co. to Lucy Powell and they possibly had children. I don't know what happened to the 1st wife Elizabeth, but they had a child to die shortly after birth between 1875-80. William Lewis Collins married Dora Jones in Claiborne Co., TN about 1895 and they had 2 or 3 children before he was murdered in 1901 in Bell Co., KY as he left the voting polls. My grandmother Ellen Josephene Collins was born just before he was shot and killed but since she was just a day or so old, she never seen her father. It is probable that Obediah's grandparents were Obediah and Patsy Collins from Surry Co., NC. They had several sons, and the sons named their sons after their g-father Obediah. These boys were all close in age, so I really don't know which one is the father. It is also possible that Oebdiah had a family in NC before he came to KY. I sure hope someone out there on the list will be able to help me sot thru all this. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Penny
