    1. Most wanted Collins
    2. Hi, I am searching for parents, spouse, siblings of: Mary M. Collins b. 9 April 1811 where ? d. March 1879 buried at Bethlehem Cemetery, Coronaca, Greenwood County, SC. The known children are Anderson/Andrew Caswell Collins and Martha Collins Baldwin Norwood. There may be a third son named John. Anderson/Andrew and Martha are buried at the same cemetery with their mother. One family story says that Mary was single when Anderson/Andrew was born and married later. Another says that she was never married. So I don't know for sure if Collins is her maiden or married name. Her tombstone does read Mary M. Collins. Any help, hints, info will be appreciated. COLLINS A native son of the Golden West, Doctor Collins was born at Visalia, Tulare County, July 7, 1874. His father, Francis L. Collins, was born in Alabama, and when fourteen vears of age came around the Horn in 1853, nearly starving to death on the trip. He landed at Port Hartford, and became a pioneer cattle man, driving cattle through the valley to Stockton to supply meat for the mining district. The father of Francis L. Collins was an old school allopathic doctor, and a brother of Francis L. is a physician living at Kansas City, Missouri. The mother of Dr. Francis T. Collins was Mary J. (Peyton) Collins, a native of Missouri, and a descendant of the Peytons and Randolphs of Virginia. >From Missouri she went to Texas with her parents, and came over the plains by ox team to California when she was fourteen years of age. She is now eighty-eight and living at Fresno. Dr. Francis T. Collins attended public schools in Visalia, completing his work there in 1891. Following that came a series of experiences in occupations and for some years he was a steam engineer. Finally he entered the Pacific College of Osteopathy in Los Angeles, and was graduated with the D. 0. degree in the class of 1913. He has since taken several post-graduate courses. For a year and a half he remained in Los Angeles practicing his profession, and for two, years practiced at his home town of Visalia. Since then he has been located in San Francisco, and has made a notable reputation in therapeutics and osteopathy. On October 24, 1901, Doctor Collins married Miss Georgia H. Howe. As a younger man Doctor Collins was a member of Company H of the Sixth Infantry Regiment of the National Guard of California. During the strikes of 1894 he saw twenty-nine days of active service. He and Mrs. Collins have one son, Warren F. Collins, now attending the University Preparatory School and planning also to take up the profession of osteopathy. Source: History of the SF Bay Region Vol. 3, Millard,1924 pg. 78-79 the only discrepancy that I know of is that Francis and Mary Jane are supposed to have both been 19 when they came to California, not 14.

    1. Re: Most Wanted: Minerva Collins b.c1820 NC
    2. I've been looking for Minerva Collins for over 10 years. I know she married George Washington Ward about 1837. They lived in Fayette Co., TN; Rockingham Co and Guilford Co., both in NC and in Rhea Co., TN where they were on the census in 1880. He died sometime after that, and the family story is that she went back to NC to care for her parents, leaving her grown children in TN. Isn't anyone missing Minerva from their family tree? Have not been able to locate a marriage record, which could indicate she was Indian. Ida

    2. Hi! My most wanted Collins is my grandfather Johnie Collins; born Jan. 7, 1876, died October 25, 1943 in Clay County, Kentucky. He married Rachael (Rachel) Gray around 1900. I've never been able to find out Johnie's parentage. I was told he may have been born out-of-wedlock. "Collins" was his mother's last name, I do know that. He would not, or could not, use his father's surname. I've been told that his father's last name was Hensley. Thanks very much, Robin C.
