1. Clarence Lewis Collins & John Franklin Collins
2. COLLINS, John Franklin & COLLINS, Clarence Lewis Hello all My Distance Cousins. Here is one for you. Since we are trying John Franklin and my grandfather together with William Floyd Collins the Cave spelunker. Since Clarence Lewis said he was first cousin to William Floyd Collins. How about our Indiana cousins looking up Clarence Lewis Collins in Indiana. Born June 20, 1879. His father John Franklin Collins, born in Kentucky, maybe John's wife Jemimia Philps was born in Kentucky also. Any cousins in Indiana and Kentucky willing to do a look up? Maybe then we could make the connection, if John Franklin's father was John Joseph Collins then maybe Leonidas Collins Floyds father was John's brother. Or maybe Clarence was a 2nd cousin to Floyd by one of John Collins brothers. Robert James, Joseph, Charles Foster or William Henry. Any searchers for takers to get this family put together. Thanks Phyllis pfcr@aol.com

Jill LackAssc@execpc.com >>>>>> Hi Brenda, I can give just one little bit of help;Suzannah Cline was the first wife of my g.g. grandfather Frederick Trent, jr., and was the mother of my g.grandfather, Humphrey Trent. Alifair Lambert was Fred jr's second wife. Humphrey and Alifair were the same age. Frederick married Alifair when she was around 18, and he was approximately 54. I believe that I remember that Frederick Trent, jr, and Alifairs parents were neighbors in McDowell County. Alifair is buried at the national cemetery in Grafton, W.Va. Later and any time, Jerry Warsing Brenda, The only two times in my life that I have seen the name Euorkia used by early American settlers has been the daughter of John W. Collins, And the last daughter of Humphrey Trent and his wife , Arminda Collins Trent. As you know I'm sure, until just recently most favored names have been passed down from one generation to the next as a way of honoring, and keeping the memory of the preceding loved one. Euorkia is a Gypsy name. Arvid is also a favored Trent name, as well as Collins; It's Jewish. Sampson is also very prevalent in my Trent line, as the Collins. Sampson was one of the leaders of the people who settled Roanoke Island. Just one more thing now: Alifair Lambert, the second wife of Frederick Trent jr., had a dark complexion, according to my mother. later, jerry warsing Jerry can be reached for comments at oceanye@nottowayez.net also check the TIMELINE out at this site The Patrin - Romani (Gypsy) Death Rituals and Customs Hope this helps somebody, Brenda

2. Steve Roper
3. I have been trying for years to locate the grave and death date of Simeon Collins of Jasper Co MS. His parents were Stacey Collins SR and Sarah Amderson. His wife was Lydia Bynum He was conscripted into the Civil War...although he was a bit old for it. He was captured and parolled. He joined Newt Knight's group. It is unknown if he died before 1870 as things seem to indicate, (his wife appears as a widow on a subsequent state census and federal census) or if he maybe went on the lam with Newt Knight. Family tradition says he is buried "somewhere in South Jasper Co MS" Regina Roper

Jill LackAssc@execpc.com >>>>>>>>> Jill and new commers, I posted this info a while back but for some that may have missed it or the newbies on the list I will take this time to repost. I found a cousin through my research and this is information that he has provided me with . My name is Jerry Warsing. I'm also a direct descendant of Meredy Collins through his and Mary Polly Holloway's son William, born 1806. William apparently died in Nicholas County, West Virginia, in 1896. My great grandmother, Arminda Collins Trent, was born in Eastern Kentucky in 1854, and died in Wyoming County, West Virginia in 1926. Arminda's husband, Humphrey Trent, was a descendant of English Gypsies who had been forced to leave England during the rein of Oliver Cromwell's Puritians in the 1650's. He was born in 1854 in Russell County, and died in 1927, a year after Arminda, supposedly of heartbreak.Do I have information for you? I don't know. I do have quite a bit of information I believe I have Mary Polly's parents names somewere I'll look for that information. Also, something you might not know, Meredy's name is on a plaque on the Pike County Courthouse in Pikeville, Kentucky, along with several others commemorating his service during the Revolutionary War. I saw the plaque myself when I left Second Union in July. I'll look for other information and send it to you. I live in Nottoway County, Virginia,( Southside ) I'm 60 years young, and have only recently started geneaological but I'm glad to help and Talk to me anytime. Jerry Warsing Hi Brenda, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly - I, too, have a letter from Eula Collins Conley to an aunt of mine , Gladys Hatfield, dated April 20, 1982. (This aunt died in 1996 at the age of 97) I was under the impression that Eula died only a couple of years ago; in any event the 1979 date you have is incorrect. My great grandmother Arminda was the next to last child of William Collins , sr. his last child was Samuel who emigrated to Slippery Rock, Oregon, in 1905 Samuel was the youngest child of Wm.Collins , sr., born, I think, in the year 1854. He rode by horseback from Nicholas County on his way West, and stopped at Simon on the Guyandotte River in Wyoming County to tell his sister, my g. grandmother Arminda Collins Trent, goodby The story goes that he had with him a young second wife, and his saddlebags full of silver coins. My grandmother, Laura Trent Walls, who was postmistress of the Simon, W. Va postoffice for many years, received a large box full of tintype pictures of Samuels second children, and perhaps William jr's children around 1928, shortly after Arminda died. The tintypes disappeared around the time of my grandmothers death in 1952. I'm going to try to send you a copy of this letter. I've had trouble scanning previously, partly due to equipment problems, but also because I'm a computer neophyte. Either Samuel or William jr, I'm not sure which, but I believe it was Samuel, made a lot of money in the hotel business. Anytime, Jerry Warsing continued..........................

2. My most wanted Collins is still my Grandfather, Jeff D. Collins. He was born about 1861 in Winnfield, LA. I know this from notation on my Father's death certificate. The only record I have found for Jeff is in 1900 when he was listed on the LA census with his wife Donie Oglesby Collins and their children, Martha, David, Matthew and Homer. In 1910 Donie is listed as a widow, but another child was listed - Pearlie - who was born about 1902. 2. In a message dated 98-10-27 08:58:01 EST, you write: << Interesting that you are looking for a John W. Collins married to a Roark. There was John Wesley Collins in Letcher Co., Ky, b. 1825 who married Nancy Roark. Many of the Collins from Letcher are also found in southwest Va. counties. Louise >> I have ran across that one before. That John Wesley Collins is from the line of James Collins. At first I thought it was my John W.'s first son by first marriage but I finally found a person of that line and after comparing notes we decided it was not mine. It is really confusing when there are so many JOHN's & WILLIAMS. If anybody needs the line of James Collins I think I still have it. Brenda

1. Most Wanted Obediah Collins
2. Penny Farley
3. Hi Everyone, My most elusive Collins family member is Obediah Collins born in NC, probably Yadkin Co. or Surry Co., about 1832. He shows up in Bell Co., KY in the 1870 census age 38 and his wife Elizabeth _____ age 19, also from NC. They had at least 2 children, one dying shortly after being born and the other being named William Lewis Collins (my great grandfather), born about 1875. In 1880 Obediah and his son are in Clay Co., KY, living in the household of Jarvis Lovins. I don't know what happened to Elizabeth. Later in the year of 1880, Obediah married Lucy Powell and I believe they had children. In 1900, it seems that Obediah has died or moved on to another town. William Lewis Collins was killed in the fall of 1901 in Middlesboro, KY as he was leaving the voting polls. I think Obediah's grandparents were Obediah and Patsey Collins of NC. They had several sons who all had sons that they named after their father Obediah, each of the boys being close in age. So I really don't know which son my Obediah belonged to. It is possible that My Obediah was married and had a family in NC before moving to KY. I would appreciate any help at all on this family. Thank you, Penny

1. My Brick Wall
2. Gail Collins
3. My great grandfather William COLLINS came to Grantham, Ontario, Canada in 1871 as an orphan. He was born in England 1859 and his father's name is John Collins. The brick wall is that for 11 years I have been researching a Collins family originating from Buckingham, Eng. This summer I received 2 pieces of information from a Stats Can pre-war 1940 registration in which both sons say William, who had died in 1934, was born in 2 different places which is not this Buckingham family! This sure throws my 11 years of research out the window. I am wracking my brain for answers to this puzzle and don't know what to do next. What would you do?
