Hello fellow researchers, I had in the past, emailed some of this information to the list. It seems we have alot of new researchers, so I thought I would do this again. During my years of looking for my Ancestor, Stacy Collins b 1786 near Spartanburg, SC, I have compiled alot of Collins info. Of course, so far nothing to point to my line. As all researchers will not throw away, ANYTHING, I have accumulated alot. In the next couple of emails I will be sending All that I have found on Collins, from a researcher, named Leonardo Andrea. My understanding, is that he has passed away, and his dau. donated his files to the LDS family research centers. I found it here at mine. I copied the file. It it over 500 pages long, so bear with me. Please remember, that I will have no further info. on these Collins families, and I am emailing this in hopes that some one will be able to have some doors open up for them. I do not know if the information has been verified, so please take it with a grain of salt. I will start in the next email. Happy Hunting, Lori
Seeking any info on a John J. Collins who was born approximately 1815 in Virginia, moved and married in Indiana in 1837 to a Nancy Wilson. Thanks, Kim S. Hello - I am new to this list, and have been "lurking" for awhile. I apparently lost the digest issue (Number 16?) in which I recall a person posted a query regarding Silas COLLINS (born Dartmouth, MA, 26 Aug 1778) married to Hannah WINSLOW. I also am looking for information regarding Silas - he is my 4-times great grandfather. I descend down from his daughter Mary Hicks Collins, who married Joseph George Crapo (their photos are included in my website - see below for the URL). I have a line of ancestry that extends back 7 or 8 generations, that is tentative at best. I am looking for confirmation of the LDS Ancestral File data that show Ezekial and Anna COLLINS as Silas' parents. this line extends back to the immigrant Henry COLLINS and his wife Sarah HEIRES, if the LDS data is accurate. To the person who posted earlier, please check out my website for more detailed info, and a down-loadable GEDCOM file if you want it. To anyone else, I would really appreciate any confirmation or other info. I'll certainly share any data that I have. Not my line, but may help someone else. The Suburban LIFE (Downers Grove IL) Wednesday, January 20, 1999 - Page 8 - Elizabeth Emmons Collins Langdon - Jan. 31, 1914 - Jan. 3, 1999 - Elizabeth Emmons Collins Langdon passed away in Clearwater, Fla., on Jan. 3, 1999. Her paternal grandfather, William Augustus Collins, was the first postmaster of the village of Western Springs. After his passing, Elizabeth's beloved paternal grandmother, Clara Gregg Emmons Collins, raised her in Western Springs. Elizabeth's father, Emmons Collins, was a member of the first graduating class at Lyons Township High School in 1897; Elizabeth graduated from that institution in 1931 and went on to attend the University of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry Langdon, of LaGrange; and her elder son, Richard Collins Langdon. She is survived by her younger son, John S. My name is Robert Johnson, and I am researching the COLLINS of Lawrence Co., OH. Namely, my g-g-grandfather. His name was John H. (Henry?) COLLINS, and I have found on the internet where he married Eliza Ann WAUGH between Jan 1-18, 1875. The problem I am having is that I was told by my grandmother that John's biological father was a PEPPER, and that he died while John was a young child. His mother then remarried (to a COLLINS), and John took his stepfathers name. Since everything else in the history that was given by her was correct, I assume this to be correct also. She did have Eliza Ann's surname as WALL though, and that has been proven to be a mispelling. I have been on this "brick wall" for over 10 years, and thought that there may be someone else on this line. Any help would be appreciated. Possibly even a lookup of the marriage of John and Eliza may help with the names, although I suspect he listed his stepfather as his father. Thanks so much, Robert
This is my brick wall. I am searching for Mary "Polly" Roark who supposely came from Harlan County Kentucky. She is found on 1860 & 70 Census of McDowell Co. WV with John W. Collins and three Collins Children, Alfred, Arnetta, and Richard. Since I have never found a marriage and I have searched SW Virginia as well as Eastern Kentucky I don't think they were ever legally married. Most of the Collins in my line are thought to be Melungeon or a tri mixture and they "took up with" leaving no paper trail behind. According to the census record John W. was born 1797-99, Mary between 1812-15. The youngest child named in the census was Richard Collins b. 1858. This would make John about 61-62 when this child was born if John was indeed the father of this child. Mary would have been past 40. Tho this is NOT impossible if also leaves room for doubt. Could these three children be grandchildren? If anybody has information on a family that fits this, please contact me. John W. Collins was s/o of Meredith Collins and was thought to be married first to Lydia Toner in Grainger Co. TN in 1821. { Marriage bonds for that marriage was signed by Griffin Collins who I believe was the brother of Meredith} If anybody has any record to verify or dispute this please contact me. Thank You, Brenda Collins Dillon

I don't know if this is true in other families, but might be a clue for you to use.
Allow me to introduce myself. I just signed on to this list. My name is Craig Collins, and I'm originially from High Point, NC. I'm looking for information on my ancestors, and don't have much to work with. I know that Collins is a popular surname, and that basically I'm grasping at straws, The information I have is as follows: My dad was born in Patrick Co., Virginia, then moved to High Point, NC at an early age. My grandfather's name was William Blaine Collins. I think he was born in Patrick Co., and he died in High Point (Guilford Co.), NC, but I have no dates. My great grandfather's name was William Thomas Collins and he was born on 1/19/1862, and died on6/28/1934). He was born and lived in Patrick or Henry Co.,VA. My great, great grandfather's name was Jack Collins, but I have no dates (none on his tombstone) for him, no wife or children information, but I do know he lived in Patrick or Henry Co, VA as well. My father had no brothers, my grandfather (William Blaine Collins) had no brothers, but my great grandfather William Thomas did have a brother named Jim who had several children, and we think some of these were sons, but aren't sure. Jim lived in Patrick Co. as well. I have checked the 1850 Census for VA and find no record of either Jim or Jack. I have no clue who Jack's father was, where he was born or where to search. I have discovered that there are a lot of Collins in both NC and VA, so am searching for any possible links in those two states. There is no family bible, wills or deeds to work with. I emailed all those on the Collins Root Web Surname page, but so far haven't found any connections. I have also search what records are available for Civil War veterans from NC and VA, and saw several Collinses, but recognized no names. Does anyone recognize any connections, or have suggestions where else I can go to search for information. Thanks in advance for your time, trouble and consideration. Regards, Craig Collins ccoll67202@aol.com craig.collins@gs.com

My COLLINS line back stops abruptly at Silas COLLINS. The Freetown, MA, vital records have him "of Dartmouth", MA, when he married Hannah WINSLOW in Freetown 4 May 1801. I haven't been able to find him anywhere else in Massachusetts vital records. One line in the LDS Ancestral File ties him to both the Lynn, MA, and Gloucester, MA, COLLINS families, but I am told by others that he probably can't be connected to both, and no one seems to know of any Silases in either family. I suppose he (1) could have been born outside MA in one of the other New England states, (2) could have come as an adult from outside the U.S., and/or (3) could have used his middle name in later life, rather than whatever name he was born with. Anybody have any ideas? Sandy Wilbur Gresham, OR
