Korean Vet GoesBerserk In Trailer LeRoy Colegrove Jr., 21-year-oldcity garbage department employe,last night shot and killed hispretty wife, Irene, 18, and then took his own life during what police describe as a dispute over the custoday of their infant son. The child saw the shooting.The shooting occurred about 10:15 p.m., at the Ken-Mar Trailer park, 475 South Diamond St., where Colegrove lived.Only last Tuesday Mrs. Colegrove had filed a divorce action againsther husband, charging neglect andcruelty and seeking custody of their little boy, Kenneth Leroy.Colegrove, a veteran of the Korean was, recently returned to Mansfield.Both Colegrove and his wife apparently died instantly from 12-gauge shotgun charges in their chests, Coroner D. C. Lavendersaid.Police were called at 10:29 p.m.by Marvin Taylor, operator of thetrailer court, after Colegrove'sfather and John Schwoller, of theSunny View Trailer park, 1496 West Fourth Street Rd., discovered the body.Schwoller said Mrs. Colegrove had been staying with him and his wife for several weeks while the divorce suit against her husbandwas pending.He said that last night he tookher to her husband's trailer and taht she was attempting to per-suade him to let her keep theirchild while the divorce was pending.Schwoller said he waited in the carsome time and when Mrs. Colegrove did not return he went to the trailer and found the door was locked.WHen he knocked and received noresponse he looked in a window andsaw Colegrove's foot. He said hecould not see the body but from the position of the foot it appearedthat he was lying on the floor.Schwoller then ran to the nearbytrailer of Leroy Colegrove Sr., father of the dead man, and aroused him. Together they went back andbroke the door down.Both the Colegrove were lying onthe floor and the gun was besideColegrove. The baby, who was inthe crib in the same room, was unharmed.Schwoller ran to the trailer parkoffice and notified Taylor, who called police.Patrolman Richard L. Turner,who is a brother-in-law of youngColegrove, was one of the firstofficers to arrive at the scenealong with Lt. R. R. Hout.The child has been left with young Colegrove since the divorcewas filed, however. The couplewas married Aug 7, 1948.RITES MONDAYMrs. Colegrove body was taken tothe Wappner funeral home whereservices will be held Mondayat 3 p.m. with Rev. Samual R.Parrett officiating. Burial willbe in the Mansfield cemetery.Mrs. Colegrove was born in Mansfield, Jul 10, 1932, the daughter of Edward nad MaryStickle, and lived her entirelifetime in Mansfield.In additions to her son and parents she is survived by herstep-grandmother, Mrs. Iola Kiner, a sister, Mrs. RaymondDale Mumaw, and a brother JohnEdward Stickle, all of Mansfield.Colegrove's body was taken tothe Jones Memorial where serviceswill be held Monday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Mount pastor of the Pleasant Valley Baptist church, officiating. Burialwill be in Memorial park cemetery.In addition to his parents and son, he is survived by two brothers William K. and Elwood Colegrove, and two sisters, Mrs.Paul Shoup adn Mrs. Sara Turner,wife of Patrolman Turner, all of Mansfield.He was born in Ashland, Ky.,and came here with his parents when he was a year old.He spent 18 months in the armyand had served eight months in the Korean war zone.
