    3. Charles Smittle Charles W. Smittle, 57, of Hayport road, caretaker of Selco Park, died from a heart attack at 8 p.m. Saturday. He was stricken while at his home on Hayport road and passed away after he had been removed to the home of his step-son, Mervin Colegrove, 5412 Winchester avenue, Sciotoville. Mr. Smittle was born at Lyra, and he was the son of David and Ratchel Smittle. Mr. Smittle is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flora Smittle, a step-son, Mr. Colegrove, a son Warren David Smittle of Hayport road; his father David Smittle, 3758 Gallia street, New Boaton, two brothers, Orma Smittle of Steubenville, and Walter Smittle of St. Louis, two sisters, Mrs. M. C. Sparks of New Boston, and Mrs. Harry Thacker, 1903 High street. The body will be removed from Emrick funeral home to the Colegrove residence at 4 p. m. today. Funeral servers will be held in the residence at 2 p. m. Tuesday.     3. CLIFFORD SMITH, MILL EXECUTIVE, DIES SUDDENLY ----- Train Superintendent at City Plant Served on Roads 35 Years ----- STRICKEN AT HOME ----- The sudden death of Clifford G. Smith, superintendent of trans- portation at the Stoubenville works of the Wheeling Steel Corporation which occurred at his home 1245 Oregon avenue at 7 p.m. Thursday came as a shock to relatives and a host of friends. His death was due to a heart attack and was preceded by a very brief illness which was not regarded as alarming. Mr. Smith, who was widely known and esteemed in business and industrial circles through- out the valley, has been identified with railroad trans- portation for a period of 35 years. He began his career with the Norfolk & Western Railway company at Cincinnati in 1900 and remained with that company for six years. In 1917 he became identified with the Whitaker-Glessner com- pany at Portsmouth, O., and served in the transportation department at the Steubenville works a postion he has capably filled since 1923. Born in Illinois Clifford G. Smith was born November 28, 1880, at Gardner, Illinois. He was married April 10, 1900, to Bertha Colegrove of Portsmouth, Ohio. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Clifford R. and Harry R., and once grandson, Clifford Richard Smith, all of Steuben- ville. He was active in civic fra- ternal an social life of this community being identified with the Masons, Elks, Steuben- ville Country club and Chamber of Commerce. He was an out- door man and hunting and fishing constituted a hobby. To his friends, who were legion, he was a sportsman in every sence of the word. He was a man of pleasing person- ality and he had the esteem of his business associate and friends in all walks of life. In the field of transportation he was highly regarded as an executive and his career was one that was marked with achievement and respect. The body may be viewed at the bereved home on Oregon Avenue. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p. m. at McClave's funeral home. Interment will be made at Portsmouth Ohio. When I started searching both sites 2-3 years ago, the hist was much less, but of course as they add newspapers the hits will keep going up.     3. Man Killed By Lightning At Riverton Riverton, Kan. -- A former Cherokee county undersheriff, Robert T. Colgrove, 40, was killed when he was struck by lightning during a thunder- storm about 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Colgrove was running a trot- line from a small boat on Spring River, about one- fourth of a mile north of the highway 66 bridge at Riverton when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Dale Alquist. Investi- gating officers said the man's son, Lonnie Colgrove, was standing on the bank when lighntning struck the trot- line. The youth summoned help and Colgrove's body and boat were recovered by the Galena Fire Department. Mr. Colgrove was born July 7, 1927, in Riverton, Kan., and had lived in this area all of his life. He owned and operated the Spring River Inn at Riverton. He had served in the Cherokee county sheriff's department since 1963, first as a deputy sheriff and later as an undersheriff, until he resigned May 1 this year. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Columbus American Legion post, the Elks lodge of Galena, Tri- State Peace Officers Association, and the Spring River Boat and Ski Club. Survivoers include the son, Lonnie Colgrove of the home; his mother, Mrs. Mabel Colgrove of Galena; a brother, William Colgrove of Galena; and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Living- ston of Galena route 2, and Mrs. Rosemary Muich of St. Louis Mo. Born in Galena, Mr. Colgrove had lived in this vicinity all his life. He has been employed at the Empire District Electric Company's plant at Riverton many years. Mrs. Colgrove was the largest woman resi- dent of Brattleboro, and perhapps of Vermont, weighing about 450 pounds. Mrs. Colgrove was born in Willington, Conn, Dec 19 1881, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Place. On Oct. 10, 1898, she married in Worchester, Mass, to Mr. Colgrove. They came to Brattleboro seven years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brattleboro. She leaves besides her husband, her father, Samuel H. Place of Phoenix, R. I.; three children, Henry Raymond, aged 13; Cecile Amilda 11, and Joseph Paul 9, she leaves also one sister, Mrs. Ida Babcock of Lime, Conn, and one brother Arthur Place.     3. MRS FRED FERGUSON Mrs. Ella (Hatch) Ferguson, 78, widow of Fred H. Ferguson, died Sunday at Putnam Memorial Hospital. She had been in frail health, but only hospitalized a few days. Born in Old Bennington Aug. 1 1884, she was a daughter of Cornelius and Berthina (Beagle) Hatch. Her schooling had been received in Bennington. She was married to LeGrand Cole- grove and, following his death, she was married to Mr. Ferguson, who died in March 1957. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lyal (Marie) Kenyon of 148 S. Branch St. Besides her daughter she leaves a son, George Colegrove of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; four brothers, Edward Hatch of Millerton, N.Y.; Cornelius Hatch of Troy, N.Y.; Earl Hatch of Pittsfield, Mass.; and a sister, Mrs. Louis Rem- ington of Bennington. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanson - Walbridge Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Glenn Payne, First Baptist Church pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery and burial will be in Hinsdillville Cemetery at a later date.     3. Restaurant owner Colegrove dies at age of 101 Clare S. Colegrove retired restaurant owner and longtime resident of the area, died June 26 at the age of 101. He had celebrated his 101st birthday March 3 at the Edmonds Manor nursing home. On his 100th birthday in 1971, he had received congratulatory letters from President Nixon, Governor Evans and the State's Congress- men. Colegrove was born March 3 1871 near Sparta, Wis. and came to the Puget Sound area in 1897. He prospected for gold in Alaska in 1898 and worked in California. >From 1910 to 1931 he operated a string of first class resaurants in Deattle, eventual- ly owning 11 places. They included the Egyptian, the Auto Kitchen, the Northold Inn and the Purple Pup. He and his wife opened Colegrove's Fine Foods resaurant at 23628 Highway 99 in 1935 and operated it until his retirement in 1945. The restaurant today is known as the Yesteryear. The Colegroves lived in Lynnwood for 25 years. He and his wife Blanche, had been married 45 years when she passed away in 1965 at the age of 83. They had no children.     3. Nuptial mass for Edmonds couple Nuptial mass was held at noon June 28 for Miss Mary Ann Parsons and Lt. Robert E . Colegrove. The mass was cel- ebrated by the Rev. James Mallahan at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Edmonds. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Parsons, 8927 225th Pl. SW, Edmonds and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Cole- grove, also of Edmonds. For her costume the bride chose a gown of silk organza over peau de sole made with an empire waistline, accented with blue ribbon threaded through lace daisies. The sleeves, neck, and hemline of the gown were trimmed in a double scailoped edging and lace daisies accented the chapel trail. Her elbow length veil of illusion was held by a headpiece of lace daisies, and she carried a bouquet of baby white roses, blue daisies, stephanotis and baby's breath. The bride made her own gown. Mrs. Sue Cavelero, as matron of honor, was gowned in blue and white and carried a colonial bouquet of blue daisies, stephanotls and baby's breath. The bridesmaids, gowned in similar fashion, were the Misses Sally Colegrove, sister of the bridegroom; Miss Joan Parsons, sister of the bride, and Miss Vickie Rae. Det Wegener of Richland was the best man and the ushers included Jay King, Ken Parsons, Paul Parsons, Jr. , both brothers of the bride, and Brian Paxton. The couple will make their first home at Fort Sill, Okla., where the bridegroom is stationed. The bride is a graduate of Blanchet high school and her husband is a graduate of Edmonds High School. Both attended Central Washington State College in Ellensburg.     3. MRS. CLARE COLEGROVE Mrs. Blanche Colegrove, 84, of 18313 60th W, Lynnwood, died February 5. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, she came to Seattle in 1908 and to Lynnwood 28 years ago. She and her husband had operated restaurants in Seattle and later along High- way 99 from 1912 on. The present Edmonds House was formerly Colegrove's. Surviving is her husband Clare. Private funeral services were held February 9 at Beck's Funeral Home followed by cremation.
