Colby, 90, of Briar cliff Manor, N.Y., died Monday (Feb. 10, 1997) at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Colby had resided in Briarcliff Manor for more than 60 years. She was an active volunteer for many organizations including Phelps Memorial Hospital, Caramoor Museum Historic Hudson Valley and the Girl Scouts. Mrs. Colby was a parishioner of the Briarcliff Congregational Church, active in many committees, was president of the Women's Society and a deacon. She was born in Hull, Mass., on Jan. 26, 1907, the daughter of Fred Ezra and Margaret (MacEachern) Thoday. Mrs. Colby attended schools in Boston, Mass. In 1928, she married Carroll Burleigh Colby of Claremont. He died on Oct. 31, 1977. Survivors include one son, Fred M. Colby of Briarcliff Manor; one daughter, Susan C. McKanna of Briarcliff Manor; one granddaughter; and one sister, Welthea B. Thoday of Concord, N.H. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mount View Cemetery in Claremont with the Rev. Mary Elizabeth Scales, pastor of Claremont First Congregational Church, officiating. The Stringer Funeral Home at 146 Broad St. is handling the arrangements.
