He was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Newbury, the son of George Bullar and Clester Colby. He attended schools in Bradford at Kurn Hattin in Westminster. Mr. Colby served in the U.S. Army as a cook and military policeman in Germany during World War II and was assigned to guard German war prisoners at the Nuremburg trials after the war. He worked as a plumber's apprentice with Hammerstrom and Smith and as a maintenance man at Bonnie Oaks Resort, both in Fairlee. He later ran his own plumbing and heating company and was operator of the Fairlee water system. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an associate member of the Lake Morey Protective Association, the Mt. Cube lodge #10 in Orford, N.H., was former chief, until his retirement in 1983, and 35 year member of the Fairlee Fire Department. Survivors include a son, Lance Colby, a daughter, Bonnie Colby, both of Fairlee; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
