I did find in Familysearch.org (LDS Library) that he was born in 1839 in Niles, MI. Then I found a second listing where he was born in 1836 in NY - F: Michael - M: Abigal Wikes The List of Pensioners, 1883 in Phillips Co., KS - Certificate No. 13,158 list a Whitman L. Colby - Phillisburg - wide right shin - $8.00. The marriage information list him as Whitman M. Colby - 27-9-1865 - in Niles, MI - to Lucy A. Howland, Cass, MI (Reason why John's middle name was Howland. Sorry, if genealogy.com gets me back on, I will be happy to copy what you want, in the mean time maybe someone else can do it for you. Pat
