Ej I checked all the census for Merrill Colby in Plainfield, NH and found the following. 1800 males under 10: 1 26 to 44: 1 Females under 10: 3 26 to 44: 1 1810 Males under 10: 2 10 to 15: 1 26 to 44: 1 Females under 10: 1 10 to 15: 1 16 to 25: 2 26 to 44: 1 1820 Males to 10: 1 10 to 16: 1 16 to 18: 1 16 to 26: 3 over 45: 1 Females to 10: 2 10 to 16: 1 16 to 26: 1 26 to 45: 2 over 45: 1 1830 Males 15 to 20: 1 20 to 30: 1 50 to 60: 1 Females 15 to 20: 2 20 to 30: 1 30 to 40: 1 50 to 60: 1 1840 Males 40 to 50: 1 70 to 80: 1 Females 70 to 80: 1 Jesse is also in the 1830 and 1840 census. Which leads me to believe you are correct in that Merrill is probably Jesse's father. Next question is, who married Merrill and who are all these children? Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: "EJ & Chris Marohn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2005 4:23 AM Subject: Re: [COLBY] Jesse Colby/Lydia Scott I have some help, and would be interested where you got the wedding date info for Jesse/Lydia. I believe this is the same Jesse Colby that is listed on the 1830 US Census for Plainfield, NH on page 291. That census indicates one adult male, 1 adult female, and one 1 year old boy. That 1 yr old would be Newell Colby. Also, on the 1830 census there is a Merrill Colby listed who has the proper age to possibly be Jesse's father. I have no birth records, but I'm fairly certain this is the case. I've been able to complete a decent papertrail on my line -- Newell Colby and wife Cynthia Ticknor Wood -- all the way to present day. Among other things it should be noted that Cynthia Ticknor Wood is a descendant of MAYFLOWER passengers Stephen Hopkins and daughter Constance Hopkins. In addition the Ticknor line can be traced to early Mass colony (King Philip's War). Willing to share/compare notes. I think you guys are correct on Jesse's father being Merrill since I think the last child of Jesse & Lydia is MERRILL not MERRIT F. Do you think that Merrill, Jesse's father could have come to Plainfield from Salisbury, MA - son of Jacob & Sarah Merrill Colby? The Merrill Colby who married Elizabeth Colby daughter of Valentine [HOW APPROPRIATE!] and Hannah Kimball Colby? The ages fit the adult ages in those census reports.
