He was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Boothbay Harbor, a son of Robert and Margaret Dawson Colby. In 1966 he graduated from Hinckley High School. He served in the Navy for nine years. For 27 years, he was employed at Bath Iron Works in the electrical department. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, collecting stamps, gardening and fishing. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Margaret Colby of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Heather Simmons and her husband, Todd, of Woolwich and Merilee Solie and her husband, David, of Cody, Wyo.; three brothers, Mark Colby of Boothbay Harbor, Kevin Colby and his wife, Connie, of Southport Harbor and Sean Colby and his wife, Karen, of Boothbay; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Jeremiah Simmons, who died March 23. Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday DAY at the United Church of Christ Congregational, Congress Avenue, Bath, with Pastor Peter Stetson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Woolwich. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall.
