By way introduction, I would like to present the following known historical information: I am, James Edward Colby, [jr.] I have a brother named, Raymond Ernest Colby. Named after my mothers Father, Raymond Ernest Newell. Raymond Ernest Newell, married Bessie Hughes (Bessie's mothers maiden name was O'Toole) We are familiar with the Hughes and O'Toole's and Newell's. It's the "Colby's" We are having problems with. I know that there other Colby's in the South Jersey area - Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties. But we have not made contact with them - nothing personal, we just don't know were they are. I live in South Jersey - outside the reach of the Philadelphia, Pa., Regional Planning Commission. In lower slower Salem County. It's still rural. I was born in Philadelphia, Penna. on the 7th. of February 1941 (celebrated by Medicare Birthday this year) I was raised in West Philly. Around the area of my Grandmothers neighborhood. My father was, James Edward Colby, (Sr.) who was also born in Philadelphia, Penna. Married, 1938 in Rising Sun, Maryland He worked for ACF - Brill Car foundry in West Philadelphia till it shut down. My mothers name was Ruth Elizabeth Colby, nee Newell. Her mother was a Hughes. My Grandfather on my mothers side worked for Baldwin - Lima - Hamilton building locomotives. Newell relatives are also located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; around Easton. A Long time ago, a Newell married a Davis and became a member of the "Kinder, Davis, Nobel" clan The "K-D-N" hold a big reunion every five years in Bridgeville, Delaware. Held one in 2006. My father had a total of seven brothers and sisters including himself. His mothers maiden name was, O'Neil[L]. We are not sure if their were one or two "L's" at the end of the name. My grandmothers full name was Patricia O'Neil[L]. I think she had a middle name, but I don't remember it. The names of my fathers sibling were as follows: Michael, Betty, Anna, Mary, Joseph and Agnes. Not in birth order. My Grandmother and her husband owned and operated a Boarding House in West Philadelphia for the arriving Irish. the Boarding House caught fire and burned down, killing my Grandmother in 1944. My Grandfather passed away shortly thereafter. Broken heart. If anyone on this list can assist me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You. S/ Jim Colby
