He was a director of the Northern Indiana Public Service company and the Gary National bank and president of the Gary Methodist Hospital board. Mr. Colby was manager of Detroit's municipally owned street car system from 1921 to 1931. From 1931 to 1945 he was president of the Chicago & Calumet District Transit company and from 1935 to 1943 was president of the Gary Heat, Light and Water company. He had lived in Hammond since 1931 and formerly was president of the Hammond Rotary club and the Hammond Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his widow, Corrie, and two sons, Averill Jr. and Donald. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist church, Hammond. (NOTE: dob 21 Dec 1879)
