Here is some more on that family Elwin is Elwin P. Colby born 22 Aug 1909 and died 29 Sept 1973. He was listed in the WWII Enlistment Records as voluntarily enlisting in Albany, being single, a clergyman, being 5'7" and weighing 217 lbs. Milton is Milton P. Colby born 4 October 1911 and died 14 May 1972. He was also a military man having been in the Air Force in WWII. He is buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Section 24 Site 1290 No idea if he were married or how big he was!! You are right, there does not seem to be any trace of them prior to that 1930 census mention.
