Colby, father, and Cecil G. (Hasty) Colby, mother. The family moved to Gervais, Oregon in the early 1920's. In 1934 she was married to Bangs C. Tapscott. They moved to Riverside, California, where they had one son, Bangs L. Tapscott. They were divorced in 1948. Aline later moved to Lancaster, California, where she met her second husband-to-be, Joseph Minnich. They were married in 1959, and moved to Susanville, California, where they bought a ranch and raised sheep. Joe died of a heart attack in 1979. Eventually, Aline moved to Woodburn, Oregon, just a few miles from Gervais where she grew up. She lived there until 2001, when she moved to Salt Lake City to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She died the evening of January 20, 2004, after a short hospital stay. She was 88 years old. Aline had a remarkable memory for friends and acquaintances, and maintained correspondence with many she hadn't seen for years. She remembered birthdays and anniversaries of all of her friends and relatives, and always sent cards and gifts. She treasured many little gifts she had received over the years, and liked to tell who had given them to her and when. She had a soft heart for animals, and especially loved wild birds. In Woodburn, and again in Salt Lake City, she maintained bird feeders and bird houses, and enjoyed watching the sparrows and others raise their families. A year or so before moving to Utah, she was adopted by a young homeless cat, whom she named Lucky . He stayed her faithful companion for the rest of her life. Aline remained independent, living in her own apartment in a retirement community, right up until her final hospital stay. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her twin sister Eileen Seely, her younger brother Roscoe Colby, her younger sister Flora Carmical, and her dear friend Pearl Vogt. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bangs and Fran Tapscott, grandson Chris Tapscott and wife Julie, granddaughter Teresa Tapscott, great-granddaughter Ryley Tapscott, and her uncle Carroll Hasty in Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends. Aline requested cremation, and that request has been observed. There will be no formal funeral ceremonies. A small private memorial gathering will take place at a later time. Those wishing to honor her memory may do so by making a donation to the Audubon Society, or other organization devoted to birds or animals.
