Here are some additional supplementary data not included in the obituary: Wilma Cloe (Dobson) COLBY was the wife of my father's 1st cousin, George Stadden COLBY, whom she married on 16 Feb 1940 in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. George Stadden COLBY was born on 27 Dec 1914 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, the son of Warren Wallace COLBY and Eva Adele STADDEN. He died on 11 Mar 1995 in Owensboro, Daviess, Kentucky, and his cremains were buried on 21 Oct 1995 in his parents' plot in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield (not too far from the site of the Lincoln tomb). Although I never knew George, I did meet Wilma at a Colby family reunion in Springfield in the summer of 2002, some 18 months before her death; she was a charming and gracious lady. I remain in touch with her daughters Susan and Nancy, who are my 2nd cousins. In the five years since Wilma's death, there have been at least two more great grandchildren added to those listed in the obituary: Joseph Allen Eskridge IV (2005) and Sarah Elaine Hartlage (2007). Retired from the US Navy as a CWO-4, Lee was enjoying retirement with his loving wife, Yoko, always by his side. Lee was the proud and caring father of two incredible sons, Glenn (Cynthia) and Jeff, and grandchildren, Connor and Cassidy. Lee's 23-year Navy career included two tours of duty in Vietnam in which he earned a battlefield promotion followed by duty stations in Japan, California, Hawaii, South Carolina and Virginia. In 1988, Lee settled his family in Silverdale. After retiring from the Navy in 1991, Lee continued his medical career as a physician's assistant for Group Health Cooperative until his retirement in 2004. Lee is survived by his best friend and soul mate, his wife of 37 years, Yoko; his son, Glenn (Cynthia); and son, Jeff; grandchildren, Connor and Cassidy; mother; sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and loving friends. In 1966, they moved from Morrisville to Skagway, Ala., where Mr. Denison worked on the White Pass and Yukon railroad. They retired to Sterling in 1978. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and vegetable and flower gardening. She was an organist for the First Assembly of God Church in Sterling. She was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post in Morrisville. Colby Born on Oct. 17, 1915 Departed on Oct. 29, 2008 Service: Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 Cemetery: Riverton Cemetery Hazel Colby, age 93, of Red Cloud, Nebraska died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., November 1, 2008 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Interment will be in the Riverton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to service time. Hazel Maxine Colby, the daughter of Nellie (Stethem) and Frank Montey, was born October 17, 1915 at Prosser, Nebraska. She departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Hazel was united in marriage with Orral C. Colby on September 24, 1932 at Mankato, Kansas. They made their home in the Rivertom area until 1943, when they purchased their farm northwest of Inavale in Webster county. Hazel loved her life on the farm helping Orral, and for many years she sold eggs. She remained active on the farm until she was 82 years of age. After retiring from the farm they moved into Red Cloud to live. She always cherished her years on the farm with very fond memories. In her later years, Hazel enjoyed watching and was a fan of wrestling on television. She will be affectionately remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She was a great cook, and a friend to all. Hazel was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orral, on April 20, 1997; and eight brothers and sisters: Bessie, Bus, Darlene, Nellie-LaVonne, Ruby, Keith, Amos and Clarence. Left to treasure her memory are her children: Larry Colby and wife Mary of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Alta Colby of Franklin, Nebraska; and Melvin Colby of Red Cloud; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mr. Colby was born Sept. 27, 1913, to Clarence and Minnie (Moser) Colby in Franklin County north of Riverton. As a small boy he moved with his family to Gillette, Wyo. They later moved to Denver. They returned to Riverton where he attended high school. On Sept. 24, 1932, he married Hazel Montey in Mankato, Kan. They farmed near Riverton. He also operated heavy equipment for land construction. In 1943 he and his wife purchased a farm northwest of Inavale in Webster County. In 1983 they bought a home in Red Cloud. They continued to maintain the farm. Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Alta Colby of Inavale; two sons, Melvin of Lansing, Kan., and Larry of Rock Spring, Wyo.; one brother, Delmer Hoyt of Shingletown, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Colby, 46, of 43 Sargent St. in Northfield, died at her home, with her husband at her side, Friday, June 27, 2008 following a long illness. She was born in Nashua March 8, 1962, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Collins) McPherson. Lori lived in Northfield for over 20 years. She schooled in Henniker, Concord and Winnisquam Regional High School in Tilton. She later graduated Summa Cum Laude with her teaching degree from Plymouth State College in Plymouth. Prior to her illness, Lori taught English for four years at Pembroke Academy in Pembroke. Over the years she held office management positions with various local businesses. Her family includes: Her husband of 25 years, John A. Colby of Northfield Brothers: Theodore Burgess of Brownville Jct., Maine, Daryl McPherson of Franklin and Stephen and Michael McPherson of Northfield Sisters: Gail Frost of Meredith and Merry-Lyn Kneeland of Verona Island, Maine Lori and John celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary June 4th 2008. Special to Lori was her family, including her numerous nieces and nephews, who were like her children. She was a friend to those wanting a friend. Artistic, Lori loved photography and needlework. She enjoyed kayaking, hiking, reading, star gazing, sunbathing and playing with her many animals over the years. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A celebration of Lori's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Home. Interment will be in Park Cemetery in Tilton at a later date, following the completion of the family crypt. Colby GAGEVILLE - James F. Colby, 76, of Gageville, Ohio, died Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2008, at his home with his family at his side.Born Jan. 14, 1932, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Earl L. and Dorothy (Frary) Colby. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Ashtabula High School. A Veteran, he enlisted in the Army in 1956 and was a Private First class upon his honorable discharge in 1958, and remained in the Reserves for many years. During his time in the service, he traveled to Holland and Germany and saw many sights which he shared through his pictures and home movies. He retired from Union Carbide/Elkem Metals in 1981 at which time he became self-employed and began caring for the Gageville Cemetery, a job which he truly loved and kept until this past summer, serving the community for 16 years. A devout Christian, James was a member of the Ashtabula Wesleyan Methodist Church his entire life. He was the church treasurer and also worked at Stoneboro Wesleyan Methodist Church camp every year in the kitchen. James loved to bird watch, walking his dog, spending time with his grandchildren, and loved being a prankster. He was lovingly nicknamed "the agitator". Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Sowry) whom he married Oct. 4, 1958; a son, Timothy (Rose) Colby of Jefferson, Ohio; two daughters, Joanne (Columbus) Farmer of Jefferson, Ohio and Janice (Mark) Luoma of Ashtabula, Ohio; five grandchildren, Bruce Colby, Christina Farmer, Mike Farmer, Mark Farmer, and Daniel Luoma; three sisters, Esther Nelson of Charleston, S.C., Dorothy (Paul) Brink of Salisbury, N.C., and Rebekah (Bill) Untch of Thomasvile, N.C.; sister-in-law, Cheryl Colby of Conneaut, Ohio; two brothers, George (Dee) Colby of Fort Collins, Colo., and Earl (Betty) Colby of Ashtabula, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and his church family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Rae; two sisters, Sarah Colby and Mary Golden; and a brother-in-law, Bob Golden. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 27th, at East Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church, 315 East Main Road, Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Marvin Blowers officiating.
