I recorded that census information before I posted my message. It's the two children who died young for whom I'm missing information, Carry B. Merrill and Eunice L. Merrill. As I think I mentioned before, I go through names in order of "last edited" and try to add at least one bit of information on each person. Of the last 41 people, I've managed to update listings on 33 without even getting up out of my chair. Ain't the Internet wonderful. I suspect these two are probably on the statewide microfilmed listings of New Hampshire deaths, or perhaps in a cemetery index somewhere. My message is also posted to the Merrill and Goffstown message boards. Steve..

Colby had seven children. Two died young. Carry B. Merrill was born in 1881 and died in 1884, and Eunice L. Merrill was born on 23 Aug 1895 and died in 1896. I suspect that they were born, died, and were buried in Goffstown, N.H. If anyone could provide more exact dates, confirm locations, provide cause of death of place of burial, I would be very grateful. Thank you! Steve..

Colby, who murdered Harry Williams at the Pacific Ocean House, Santa Cruz, in 1878, has been sentenced by the Superior Court of that county, to hang on the 20th of February. The exceptions to his counsel, disputing the jurisdiction of the Court, were over-ruled. Colby, in a lengthy statement related the causes that led to the shooting and claiming justification, and after the Judge fixed the day, he addressed the Judge saying "If this judgement is carried out, the Court will be guilty of judicial murder." Unable to determine the identity of Charles, but think that victim might be: 1880 census Gilroy, Santa Clara, CA Harry Williams age 48 b.
