Interesting family here! On the 1900 census for 1900 United States Federal Census, Massachusetts, Worcester, Worcester Ward 8, District 1777 "Jean F. Colby" lists as a widow with a daughter, Edith E and several boarders/roomers living with her - one named Alice M. Colby age 22 born in Massachusetts. AND on the sames 1900 census for 1900 United States Federal Census, New Hampshire, Belknap, Tilton, District 12 Colby, Edward H. Head April 1848 living alone and listed as married. There is no sign of Orren Elmus anywhere until the 1920 United States Federal Census, New Hampshire, Merrimack, Franklin Ward 1, District 87 when his mother "Gene F. Colby" age 70 is living with him and his 2 sons, Raymond C & Harold S. No sign of their mother. The WWI draft card has next of kin as "Mrs. Katie Colby". Later, Orren Elmus married Clara. What has happened, here? In 1900 Jane / Jean / Gene said she was a widow but her husband said he was married?? Who is Alice M. Colby? Where was Orren Elmus in 1900? Or 1910? And! Try putting that Social Security number into the SS Death Index and "No Match"!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! I will check my notes for this family and get back to you. What I would like to know is who were Charles' parents and grandparents? any ideas?
