Here is another Colby who was active in New Hampshire politics: John Colby b Jul 6 1797, Springfield, NH son of Isaac Colby and Experience Stevens. John Colby was very active in the Sunapee, New Hampshire town government and was elected as a Selectman in 1828, 1829, 1831, 1833, 1835 and 1839. He was also the town clerk in 1831, 1833, 1835, 1836, 1838 and 1839. Five times he was elected as the Representative to the General Court (state legislature of the time) in 1828, 1830, 1833, 1835 and 1838. He held a number of other elected offices in Sunapee during the years 1828 to 1840 including Town Treasurer, Auditor, Sealer of Weights and Measure, Surveyor of Lumber, Surveyor of Highways and Moderator. There seems to be no indication of political involvement after 1840. I can comment on Ira Colby, Jr. of Claremont, my great grandfather, who is buried in Pleasant Street Cemetery in Claremont. I think he died in 1907. We have an old Granite Monthly or some such magazine, with an article about him. Eleanor Colby Zue Vershire, VT 05079
