Does anyone have anything about Uriah Colby b. abt 1815 in N.H. ? This is NOT the Lucius that Married Mary Ward! In the 1850 census he was in Sutton N.H. with Mary Howe b. abt 1785 and Chauncy? Colby b. 1848.I have a copy of the town record of Sutton N.H. dated 16 May 1844 stating that Uriah Colby found a stray horse in his pasture. Uriah married Livonia Palmer (b. abt 1822 in N.H.) in 1850 or 1851. They had a daughter Laura Jennie Colby b. 9 Dec. 1851 in Warner N.H. (Livonia was from Warner so I suppose she went home to have the baby) In 1856 the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa. The 2 year old in the 1850 census listed as Chauncey was actually Lucius Willard Colby b. 22 July 1848 in Sutton N.H.. I would like to find information on the ancestory of Uriah and the mother of Lucius who was supposedly born in Canada.
Ron -- I don't know the answer, but it certainly seems to fit. Fryeburg is just across the New Hampshire border, only a few miles from Eaton, so your hypothesis would be geographically consistent. Another clue might be the name of Joseph's and Almeda's second son, William W. Colby (b. abt 1839). Is it possible that he was named for my 2nd great grandfather, William Wallace COLBY (b. 1818)? Under your scenario, William Wallace COLBY would have been Joseph's 1st cousin. I too would be interested in knowing whether your supposition is correct. Guy I.
