Karen, This Amos would have been the early 1900s. Thanks for the reply. Earline
I have an Amos Colby who was born in Warner, NH in 1792. He was the son of David and Sarah (Badger) Colby. I recommend checking with the local Historical Society. Some keep a collection of Colby memorabilia where the roots run deep. There were 26 different Amos Colby's. If you could identify which particular Amos that you have the photo of through these resources, they may be able to connect you with the closest living relative, to be able to return the photo to its rightful place. Good recommendation Jeanne. This brings up something that all family historians should consider. All of us diligently enter family history into paper and electronic form, however, what becomes of all of that hard work and documentation we have doneĀ regarding our ancestors? I think that it is important to at least while we still have our mental faculties or are still here on earth to leave instructions with family members of what to do with all of the information. A good idea is to consider donating a copy of the family history to a local genealogy library. Share your compiled genealogy with other family members. If you publish your genealogy, donate a copy to your local library and be sure to send one to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library/article.aspx?article=3671 Bob Colby --- On Tue, 9/16/08, Jeanne bailey <jbailey@cpmproperties.net> wrote: From: Jeanne bailey <jbailey@cpmproperties.net> Subject: Re: [COLBY] Amos Colby To: colby@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 10:29 AM I recommend checking with the local Historical Society. Thanks for all the information. Would these Colbys have family or ancestor name of Charbonneau. I assume the answer is yes, as you mentioned Canada. That's where my family originated, changing from Charonneau to Colby. Hi You may be interested in the new web site I have set up with my wife Mary (a Colby) http://www.colby-connections.com Although the site is worldwide I am especially interested in building knowledge of Ireland and England. Certainly many Colbys will have gone to other countries too. At present the site is moving into beta stage having now been set up and tested. Although a subscription is mentioned this is not active for the time being so you are free to use the site totally. The site carries no advertising at all, and the subscription (only needed to view full records) is designed to help defray hosting costs). Adding facts is a key part of the sites aims, especially pre 1900 which will help forge historic links. I would be pleased if could add some facts in your knowledge to support the site in its early stages. Besides the database itself which can be added to via: http://www.colby-connections.com/factshare.htm There is a discussion board to engage in questions and answers, debate or anything Colby connected, please ask for any new boards.
