Addy, Thanks for reminding us how to research. Sometimes after awhile we forget to do certain things in our haste to "add" family members to our genealogy. Another good resource is FamilySearch.org. Though some disagree on this site for its accuracy, this is where I found my first family, after I had looked through all the stuff my family had left me. Some years ago, before the LDS site was ever available, I went to my local Family Center in Midland, Tx. There I found folks who had a computer (!!) and discs of information. I found on one of the databases a woman living in Utah, who would be my Mother's cousin, who had been doing genealogy for YEARS! She listed my grandmother (though the surname was incorrect) and grandfather. We have been corresponding for 12 years now. I still have the original printout and all her letters and of course photos of our family. Since then, I have visited several LDS Family Search locations. You can find local centers on the webiste. They have always been helpful. I was able to obtain copies of books on microfilm or film rolls. You can even do a surname lookup on the website and find those book titles, then order them through the local center. Also, they have published on the internet the 1880 census, and it is free. I am researching the following families, all around Durango, Marvel, and Ouray: McKelvey (Durango and Marvel, Victor and Saguache), Roberts (Durango), Faris (Durango), Gonner (Durango), Kittner or Keltow (Durango and Ouray), and Schweitzer (Ouray). My great-grandfather was Frank Gonner, a man from Luxembourg who ended up in Durango and became a rather well-known photographer between 1889 and 1912. I have hundred of pages of these families I would love to share or add to! Thanks for letting me put in my two cents. Kathy Gibson Southgate, MI
