I am trying to find a record of a 1900 death in Durango (Gretta Baxter, b abt Oct 1896, d/o Hattie & Guy Baxter). I'd appreciate knowing of the county has records or if there might be mortuary records available somewhere. Many thanks, Ellen Bisson
Guy N. Baxter m Hattie Dunham (my grandmother's sister) on 14 Nov 1895 in Durango. I haven't been able to find them after 1895. There is a Guy Baxter in the 1880 census for Jefferson County @ pg 238 for Golden Twp. If anyone out there has access to that particular census page, I would appreciate knowing how Guy Baxter is listed. Many thanks, Ellen Bisson

I find Henry J. Hechtman, 1853-1912, buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Durango, Colorado. I do not find any Holston family members in the Cemetery Index for La Plata County. Hope this helps a little. Louise

I just got the death certificate of my great great grandfather (Thomas RIFFEL) in the mail today. He died on 5-29-1927. His death certificate says he lived in Kline, Colorado. It says he was burried in Marvel, Colorado and in the Undertaker space it says: "Friends" in Kline, CO. Does anyone know how I could find out where he is burried. I tried doing a search for "Friends Funeral Home", on the Internet and in the yellow pages, but could find nothing. The Hood database has: Francis Riffel b. 1904 d. 12/11/1928 buried at Greenount Mary Riffel b. d. 4/15/1927 buried at La Plata, New Mexico Mary was Thomas's wife, but they have nothing on Thomas. Thanks, Rus Schmidt Onalaska, TX
Dear List, I have just joined and I was wondering if anyone could help me with my brick wall? His name was Charles Edward Green b Nov 15, 1889 in Jewet, San Juan County, New Mexico and d March 1970 in Durango, Colorado. His parents were Millard Green and Ida May Burkett, Smith, Green. Siblings were Lillie (my great g-mother), Rosa, Arthur Chester, Avisa (married a unknown Garnand) and Ruby Green. He also had a son that he named of Millard Green. I know the family traveled between New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and California. Leaving some along the way. Also does anyone do lookup in Durango for DCT'S and Obit. I would sure like to find out who his wife was and if he had other children for a upcomming family reunion in Oct. that I am hosting. Thanks for any help, [email protected]
Hello: I have a copy of La Plata County Colorado Cemetery Index, and will do lookups if anyone needs them. Louise Adams Researching: Baker, Gribble, Rutherford, Smith.

Seeking the death date of Elba Elliott(Elliot) who resided in Ignacio CO. He probably died before 1942. Was born abt. 1860 of Hardin Co., OH to Wilkinson & Nancy Rollins Elliott. Is there a city directory to place him? Is there a cemetery called San Jose in CO? Jeannet
Thought I would send you my new E-mail address. [email protected] Just for information. Lea
During and prior to 1946 there was a one room school-house on Lightner Creek, LaPlata Co., Colorado; off of Hwy 160 West. Lightner Creek ran parallel to the school and was the source of drinking water for all children and events held at the school. The school was used for "square-dancing" about 1910-1940. I understand that this school-house was moved, removed, destroyed, etc. I was once told that it was removed to a "museum" somewhere in LaPlata County. Can anyone give me any information on what might have happened to this old school-house. Mary in California.
