Thanks for your reply. I have a certified copy of the marriage license and applcation plus the certtificate of marriage between Arthur Bennett, and Ali (Alice Amanda ) Hudgins, but they were married in Telluride. San Miguel Unless for some reason they were listed in La Plata because he claimed he was divorced there from his first wife. If there is actually one listed for them in La Plata, I will write the Clerk again and get a copy of it. This beginning to be a real mystery. I would appreciate your listing any James , or Arthur Bennett anywhere in Colorado, I have already checked out the one In Pueblo County, in 1905, and received the one from Boulder in 1907. I now there were a lot of Bennetts in Colorado, but the only viable dates would be no earlier than 1904, and I doubt if it was that early. I am beginning to wonder if he did get a divorce from his first wife. I will certainly try to look through the web site for old newspapers. These are the marriages that are listed on the CD Colorado Marriages 1859-1939 There were several James and James A that could be the one you are looking for. None however were in the Montrose, San Miguel, or La Plata Counties area. They were all listed as being married on the Easter Slope, close to Denver. The only marriage found for Arthur Bennett was 25 Oct 1910 to Ali Huggins in La Plata County. There were no Jim Bennetts listed. Have you tried searching th old newspaper archives for Colorado State? Might have some luck there. http://www.cdpheritage.org/collection/chnc.cfm Gladys ~ have a Merry Christmas! Dear Ruby: I don't have any information for you but I do have some connections in the area. My great grandparents (Richard Simpson Oldham and Margaret Ellen Kavanaugh) and my grandparents (Charles Richard Oldham and Inez Soletus Gilliland) all homesteaded in Pagosa Springs in 1914, later returning to Oklahoma. The Oldhams were from Chariton County, Missouri, which is mainly what I wanted to tell you. The Oldhams now in Pagosa Springs are from the same family but from two different brothers back in the late 1700s.If I come across your family names in our records I'll let you know. Hope to meet you someday. I plan to eventually make a trip to that area. Best regards, Larry L. I am searching for a marriage record, and or a divorce record for James ARTHUR Bennett, my grandfather, who was married to an unknown lady before he married my widowed grandmother Alice Hudgins in October of 1910 at Telluride, Colorado. On the application for their marriage license he stated he had previously been married and had obtained a divorce in Durango a year ago July 1909, for grounds of desertion. he affirmed this was true and signed the application Arthur Bennett. I obtained permission from the judge at the La Plata combined court, and paid a fee of $20 to have the divorce records searched, the clerk reported that no Divorce was granted to a Bennett.between the years of 1895 to 1910. Are there any volunteers that could help me find any records relating to Arthur Bennett. Do yo think it is possible the reseacher overlooked the record on microfilm? The 1900 census does list a James Bennett , with wife Mary and a young son 2 yrs. old. Born in 1863 and 37 years old. Born in Missouri as my grandfather was. However he is 20 years older than our Arthur Bennett would have been., who was still living with his parents in Montrose and was enumerated as 18 years old . He was married 20 years to Alice. and fathered 7 children. Any helpful suggestion would be very appreciated. Thank you . RC Re,e[
Dear List Members: Thank you for your wonderful feedback both public and private! When we share, we all benefit. Anyone else have a "special" resource we all can use to do research? As a reminder, I have the Cemetery Index for La Plata County, and am happy to do lookups. Burials range from about 1835 to 1978. Louise
Your referenced web for the Colorado Historical Newspapers is AUSOME! I found a reference to a "Clarence Gail" in the article "Sylvia Tovrea Departed". Publication: Weekly Ignacio Cheiftan (Ignacio, La Plata County) Date 1919 Aug 15; Section: Front Page Number: 1. Greatfully thankful to you for the web page, I have been able to find so much information already. I am looking for any information on Clarence Gail (Tovrea) Thompson who was born about 1918 in La Plata Co., CO. He went by the name of Gail and was supposedly killed during WWII. Gail was actually the son of Arch (aka Art, Arthur, Thomas Charles) Tovrea and Sylvia Thompson. Sylvia died about 8 Aug 1919 and Arch left the area and the baby. Gail was raised by his mother's sister, Lily Spaeth (Mrs. Frank Spaeth) in Durango. According to the marriage records for Colorado, a Gail E Thompson married a Stella Brewer in 1937-La Plata Co., CO. I would like to know if this is him and if so were there any children.

Addie: Thank you for relating the information regarding your brother-in-law. This is a lonely time for the family as they support their loved one in the fight against cancer. My card has just been put in the mail, with my prayer for strength that they may endure all that is before them. God bless you as you reach out for comfort for Mark's family. May you too find peace, as a burden shared is only half as heavy. You have done a deed of simple kindness, Though it's end you may not see. It may reach like widening ripples Down a long eternity. Love, peace, and prayers, Louise Adams
