I am looking for any descendants of BARNEY RAYMOND ARTHUR and BESSIE HETHERINGTON. Barney died in Durango in December 1930. He was married to Bessie Hetherington and they had two daughters, LENA and ALTHA. In 1930, Altha was a senior in High School. Lena was married and had a last name of HATTER, she lived on Upper Florida. Any one having any information on either of these girls or any of their descendants, please contact Lea Arthur at [email protected] or at P.O. Box 5145, Bremerton, WA 98312-2755. Thanks Lea Arthur
I am researching my great grandparents - James O. and Christina Monteith. They immigrated from Scotland in 1882 with their 4 children - Annie, Robert, John, and Christina. They settled on a farm near Durango (Griffith/Falfa, on the Florida Mesa). Also James' brother, John R. Monteith/wife Catherine, and Catherine's sister, Annie/husband John Carnon settled in Durango shortly after that. By 1900 census, James' brothers, Peter and Andrew, and sister, Mary, also settled in Durango area. Christina d. 1919, James d. 1921 - and the farm was occupied until at least 1924, when daughter, Annie, married and moved to Calif. - and possibly until 1945, when son Robert Monteith died. I have been unable to get verif of death for Peter, Andrew, or Mary Monteith - or for John Carnon. Any information on any of the Monteiths, or John Carnon, would be appreciated. Laura

Dear List, I am searching for a virtual needle in a haystack, but I know the answer is out there somewhere! My ggrandfather , David GOLDBERG, left his wife and two young boys in Chicago in 1894 to go to Colorado. He died there in about October of that same year. I only have this little bit to go on after receiving a 100 year old admission form from the orphanage that his son (my grandfather) was placed in. It is on this form dated March 1895 that his wife states that he "died in Colorado 6 months ago." I'm sure they were living in basic poverty, and daily life was a struggle. They were both Russian immigrants. I am leaning toward him coming out there to mine, but this is just a guess. I have no idea how he died. I would much welcome any suggestions as to where to begin, and also ask that if anyone has access to any death indexes from your various counties, or know of any "potter's field" areas in cemeteries that you might check them for me if you have time. I'm quite sure his family could not afford to have him sent back to Chicago, and I have been unable to find him there. I think I'm going to have to attack this by finding out where is ISN'T, to find out where he IS. If anyone thinks I am going about this the wrong (or long) way, please let me know! Thanks very much for hearing my story........ Regards, Donna in Minnesota Obit Vol, Crow Wing County [email protected]

Hello LaPlatters: I am trying to determine from which Shire/county in England Daniel Parry and his wife Elizabeth (Perry) Dale came from (and any additional info). They would have immigrated around 1868 or '69 period. I haven't been able to locate them on any web site listing immigrants from England so far. They are to have been married in 1855 in England and for a time were in Potawattomie, KS. Rumor has it they were operating a horse ranch in KS before coming to LaPlata County. Many thanks, Steve Rieke [email protected]
Looking for info on JOEL K. MULLEN and wife LORA ANN PERKINS. She went by Anna L. He died Aug 6, 1900, at age 63. I have his funeral memorial card, but it does not state where. They had a mine in the area of Telluride or Durango, Colorado. They had an adopted daughter, MABEL MULLEN METCALF. I have a photo of her, at about age 10, taken at Durango. Would someone please check indexes for a death and obit for him? and for any land owned by them? Anna L. died here in Lincoln, Ne, and was buried next to her brother, in 1927. Thanks for any help you care to give. Peggy
