Hi Gail and all, I have about given up on my Leadville connection. I think my man must have been a rolling stone. He was listed (at least one of the same name was) in the city directory in 1883 but by the time of the 1885 census went missing again. 1883 Leadville Colorado City Directory lists: John H DEVERS, shoemaker residence 422 E 9th Leadville, Co Earlier the 1880 US Census CO Nederland township Boulder County lists John H. DEVERS on page 344 (but in 1870 there was no Devers family meaning that this guy was a transient like most). Before that I know that my greatgrandfather was drummed out of the US Cavalry for desertion in 1871 but am only surmising (hoping?) that he was the same man as the above.
