As some of you know I have been collecting Colorado history books, especially if they contain history of Lake County. There was one book that I kept putting off buying until last fall. I am very sorry I did not purchase it earlier! If you are interested in the mining history of the area from the first strike at Granite (it was the county seat of Lake for a few years) to - California Gulch - to the mining at Climax this is a wonderful book to read. The title is "Leadville A miner's Epic" by Stephen W. Voynick, and it is published by Mountain Press, Missoula MT. It is a paperback edition and I purchased it for about $10 either from the Colorado Historical Society, in Denver, or the Book Mine in Leadville (Book Mine, (719) 486-2866, 502 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461) but I am sure it can be purchased through other sources.
