With respect to Cory's inquiry St. Mary's School (Roman Catholic) started in 1878/79. It did, eventually include twelve grades, but when that occurred, I do not know. If there are any records they would be at the office in the parish office of the Leadville Catholic Community at 609 Poplar Street, Leadville, CO 80461. There were several public schools in the Leadville area during the early years, some were in the camps near the town, Adalaide Park, Oro City, etc, and in the town, on Carbinate Hill. None of these exist today. I know the last one burned down and I would presume the records were all destroyed. The existance of records from the public schools for the years in which you are looking is doubtful, but should they exist, the best source would be the Supt. of Schools Office. I don't know the address, but assume it can be located using the web and the yellow pages, and/or the white pages. I wish you the best of luck in your search
