I was very fortunate to get a copy of a portion of the 1918/1919 newspaper on microfilm through interlibrary loan. In it I found my Great-grandmother, Catherine Devlin Farrell, and my Great-uncle, John Farrell, obits. I also read all about the great flu epidemic that claimed both their lives. In the next few months I will try to write up my search and share it with the list. I was not able to get a copy of two other films I order. The library said the lending library only had non-circulating copies. My librarian wrote a request on my behalf for a lookup for the obit. I have not yet received the obit but it is at least an avenue you can try. So try your local library and see what you can find. Hello Mr. O'Brien, When I saw the phrase "mine worker records" I about fell out of my chair! I have three families that I am researching in Leadville: Doyle Burns Dumphy All of them came to Leadville around 1879-1885 and worked many different mines. Some of the men in those families rose to the rank of "engineer" and "superintendent." One young man was killed in the Ressurection Mine in 1901. These families stayed in Leadville until the early 1940s. I would be very interested in any information that you have in regards to the mine worker records. I can be contacted at [email protected] Thanks! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gail Meyer Kilgore" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 26, 2001 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [COLAKE] Mine worker records > Al O'Brien can you help these ladies? Hi Everyone: I have been reading your messages for a while but now there is something I would like to ask. I have an Edward H. McKnight that lived in Leadville and on the 1900 census it states that he worked as a switchman R.R. But in the City Directories it states that he worked for Arkansas Valley Smelter and Bi-Metallic Smelter. Question 1: what kind of information could I find in their records? If there is any. 2: Who do I write to find this information? Edward had a son named Joseph b. Sept 1899 but no birth records are found. I was wondering if someone could tell me what could have happened to his birth record and where I could write to find church records or any information. Because I can't find a marriage record for Edward and Olivia. Olivia was married to a William McConochie (came from Scotland), he die in 1894. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thank You Charlena in Oregon [email protected]

Al has records of mine workers. Gail
Mary Ann, Is the time frame of your mine articles the early 19th century? Are there other names in the articles? I'm trying to locate where my grandfather, Arthur Stewart, worked. Records of mine workers seem very difficult to find. Thank you. Andrea Strahl
I have a small newspaper article about the owners of the Lord Byron mine in Leadville. Owners Fred Arnold, Joseph Beck and Charles A. Bartlett. Also have a picture of Robert S.
