I have never seen this genealogy book that Marie refers too. And, unless something is submitted on the old families it will not be in future books either. This is a good way to gather information on the old families of Leadville by submitting your family information. Gail
I have a William T. Kelly that died on 30 Oct 1902 and one who died in 1929. Gail
A project for all of you.... OLD TIMERS UNITE! CONTRIBUTE YOUR STORIES TO BOOK Everyday I hear or read that another old timer passed away, taking all our precious history to the grave. Every single family in the following list, and other not listed, who have moved here, have an interesting, exiting or even sorrowful experience they can share with all of us, who loved them, lived around them, went to school and church with them. Everyone contributed something to this wonderful city. Are we going to let it all die? Please don't. Let's all get together, and reach into our memories for anything we can preserve for future generations. What an interesting book it would make. A part of each and every one of us, who lived thru the good times and bad times of this city. Those of you who moved away, will never forget our town, so please put down all you remember, and send it to me. Everyone of you, in your own words, will become a part of history of the families who made Leadville once the very great city. You can't forget, you made it so. After the book is completed, I count all the pages it contains. They usually cost ten cents a page to print, $1.00 for the cover, and $2.00 to put it together. This will be your cost, when you order the book. I will order a book made to only those people who have contributed and made this publication possible. No extra books will be made. So, if you don't send in your "history," you will never be able to buy this book, at any price, and believe me this will be your most treasured book, because you wrote it, I'll just put it together. All my six previous books were made this way. Remember my Genealogy book, a book of 285 family tress for people who came her to Leadville from year 1865 to the present? Every state in the union participated, and many from Yugoslavia. Many people thought this book would never amount to much, since it took four years of research. So they did not contribute. Not only did they not get included in this, they never got the book. After they read it, they begged and pleaded for a book; of course, there were no extra copies. Several families bought copies for the entire family. One family bought 22 copies and another 18. I am proud, I was able to do it. When you contribute, I want your grandparents name. Where they were born, when they landed in Ellis Island, when they were naturalized, when they came to Leadville, when married, to whom, what they did, all the names of their children, grandchildren, and their families, what they are doing and when they died. Any other interesting item you want to add to your history. Only you can do this; this is a legacy you will be leaving for your children, and they will love you for it.... Mail all your stuff to Marie Schlamann, 22 West 7th St., Leadville, Colorado 80461 or bring it to my home. Signed Marie Schlamann Leadville, Colorado Printed Herald Democrat 26 July 2001
Gail, Thank you for your information about Kellys. Would you show any William Kelly's who died before 1920? Kari

I will no longer be posting obituaries to the GenConnect boards, they will be posted on the Lake County web page. http://www.usgw.org/co/lake/lake.html Regina O'Malia Edington, who was 102, passed away this month for those of you searching the O'Malia line. I have not uploaded the web pages on obituaries yet but hope to do so tomorrow. Also, I will be sending in pictures to the Colorado Tombstone Project on the 80 pictures that I took of graves in the GAR section of Evergreen Cemetery. That will take awhile before they get those uploaded onto their web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/colorado.html Also, because of the mass amount of emails that I had staring me in the face when I got home from Colorado, I deleted them rather than sorting and filing requests. Nothing on the Kelly's in the Evergreen Cemetery. Gail
I have a William who was 59 and died on 30 Aug. 1929 and four Mary Kelly's but only one who died after 1929 and she died 11 Oct 1935 and no age is listed or no burial location just says in a lot. This is in the Catholic cemetery. Gail
Seeking death or burial dates for William Walter Kelly and Mary Kelly. Both probably are buried in Leadville. Mary Kelly is in the 1920 Lake co census, age 45 Head of Household. William Kelly is found last in the 1910 census, age 41. Can anyone help with this? Thankyou, Kari
Gail, I am happy to have any information that may lead to my great-uncle James Griffiths! YesterdAy was Great Leap Forward day, as I now have his Leadville address in 1882 - someone looked him up for me in the Leadville Directory for that year! Yet another lister advocated that I contact the Colorado Genealogical Society, but alas the e-address on their website wasn't functional. Do you think I might repeat here the text of the message I sent them? Someone might have more clues for me: Message: Good morning from rainy, cold Canberra, Australia! One of the kind COLAKE Listers has given me your address, in hopes that you might be able to put me on to people who know. My problem is of course that there are no records in my local libraries which help in the least in the quest for my great-uncle! His name was James GRIFFITHS. He was born about 1851 in Radnorshire, Wales, son of James Griffiths and his wife Hannah née Lloyd. During his childhood, the mother moved across the border into England, and they lived in Manchester for a time. James went to the United States, probably in the early 1870s (I am still searching on-line shipping lists). He married Margaret, also Welsh born of Welsh stock. Surname not yet known. According to the 1880 census, he, 29, engineer, and she, 27,'keeps house', plus two children: Elizabeth Ann born ca 1977 PA, and William b ca 1879 CO, were in the Census District of 'Bald Mountain Hill and Breece Hill, Colorado'. I have learnt this morning that James Griffiths is in the 1882 Leadville directory as engineer, residence, 816 East 5th Street, Leadville, Colorado. And that is virtually all I have established as yet. Two or three wonderful people, including a couple of ex-mining men, have supplied me with excellent background information on Colorado, the mining industry there, Leadville itself, etc. I have from the internet a putative marriage for the girl, and a putative death for the boy, but these remain as speculation, as I don't yet know whether the Griffiths family were permanents or transients, in the Leadville area. I do know that at some stage near the turn of the century, he came to Australia to visit his younger brother (who was my grandfather, William). I have a photograph of the two of them together. Now, dear people, suggestions, please! What can I look up myself? In cases where the data are not available to me, could someone there do an occasional lookup, as we do here for those far away. Over to you, with my thanks! Lois

Boom Days is 3-4-5th of August. Yes, these books are indexed by name or event. Gail
I,too, have the Griswold Book set. This set is a "must have" for anyone doing research in and around Leadville. I got my set as a Christmas gift from my wonderful husband and he said that he had ordered it from Barnes and Noble. I'm sure you can place an order with one of the major book chains or Amazon.com. The set is well over $100 but it is worth every penny! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack Willoughby" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2001 5:55 PM Subject: RE: [COLAKE] My Trip > How can we order those books? Thank you once again, Pat. I'll do that Lois
Thanks, Pat. May I, then, trouble you for the e-mail address of the Colorado Historical Society, so that I might repeat my question about James Griffiths and family in the 1880 Directory? Regards - Lois (in Canberra)
Do the Griswald books have names indexed? I, too, might be headed for Leadville this summer. Things are still up in the air for me. When are Boom Days? I want to say thanks to Gail for the wonderful upkeep she does with this list! You are the greatest!!! I belong to other lists which seem to have no activity for months at a time. Again, thanks!
