    3. Frank, if you are going to be looking at the History of Lake Co and Leadville, could you keep an eye open for James GRIFFITHS, please? I have his (and family) entry in 1880 census, and also in the 1882 Leadville Directory, but would be delighted to have any other passing mentions that might exist. Thanks! We have no such data in my libraries - Canberra is a little far away! Lois

    1. Re: [COLAKE] ROLL CALL!!
    2. I'll add to the roll call! I have the following Leadville information on my great-great-grandmother Wilmuth Taylor Ward Young. Her first name may have also been spelled as Wilmeth and Wilmoth. >From the 1880 Census I found her listed as: W. Ward, a widow, 39 years of age, born in VA who's occupation was listed as "laundry." Her daughter, Ida Ward was 6 years old, born in MO, and the only other individual living there. In the 1882 Leadville City Directory she is listed as: Mrs. Wilmuth Ward residing at 610 w Front St. in Leadville. In the 1883 and 1884 she is listed as: Mrs. Wilmuth Young residing at the same address. In 1883 she married Eugene Young and in 1884 had a child named Charles. By 1885, she was living in the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo where she died approximately 15 years later. I'm trying to determine when she came to Leadville and if she arrived as a widow or became a widow after moving to Leadville. Also, trying to determine the nature of the district she lived in. I do not know the name of Mr. Ward, Ida's father. I do know that Eugene Young worked for Grant Smelter and moved with them to Denver approximately 1884 or 1885. Maybe something will click in someone's mind! Thanks in advance. Leslie Lynch Alderman [email protected]

    1. [COLAKE] Lookups in 1880 CO
    2. Mary--- It is very kind of you to offer lookups in 1880 Colorado census. I am looking for the founder of the Col. Sellers Mine, which operated in Leadville during the middle of the 1880 decade. His name was W. P. Sellers. Is he found anywhere in Colorado in the 1880 census? I am also looking for Frank Baldauf in Leadville, or anyone of that name, in Colorado in 1880. Thank you very much, Frank Sellers

    2. Lois Carrington
    3. A very humble request, then, please Gail - one of the offspring of my aforementioned great-uncle, James Griffiths (Leadville environs for a few years around 1880) went to Boulder with James and the rest of the family, then married and went to Hygiene, not too far away. Couldyou let me have the rootsweb-l address(es) covering Boulder and Hygiene? I have been neglecting Great-Uncle James lately in favour of more Australian convicts, but should get on with the Colorado family too! Best wishes - Lois

    1. RE: [COLAKE] DOYLE, LEAHY and HART
    2. Jack Willoughby
    3. My Ggrandfather, Patrick Edward Doyle, was a mining engineer, Irish, Catholic, member of Knights of Columbus in Leadville. He married Hannah Leahy. They had a dozen kids, including my Grandmother, Mary Didema Doyle. She married Henry Westfall Hart in Leadville. He became a partner with Frank Zaitz in the Hart-Zaitz Mercantile Store in Leadville. Patrick died in 1909 and is buried in the Catholic cemetery in Leadville, with a beautiful headstone. Another of the Doyle daughters married a Ritzinger. Henry and Mary Hart had two children, Henry W. Hart, Jr., and my mother, Virginia Hart, born in Leadville, who married my father, W. Jackson Willoughby, Jr. I am always looking for more info on these folks, especially any contacts with the Leadville Council, Knights of Columbus (since I am a Deputy Grand Knight of my Council). Jack Willoughby

    3. In 1885 it says that the owners of the mine was a private c0-partnership of W. F. Patrick, T. C. Stebbins, Lyman Robinson, John Livezey, Jr., J. C. Whiting, A. J. Gerhard, J. J. Simmons and S. J. Glover. Further in the article it says that W. F. Patrick remains the manager of the mine, the article is talking about the death of Fred E. Bruen, E.M. who was the Superintendent of the Mine. Mr. Patrick is the principal owner. He found the mine and developed the mine to its present grand proportions. Since this death of Bruen Mr. Patrick is assisted by John D. Drummond, a practical miner who is acting both as Superintendent and foreman. Mr. Drummond is assisted by Mr. Frank Baldauf, night foreman.. Gail

    2. Good Morning!!! I am still chasing my Swedes - Aspgren/Aspegren and now I find that some Gustafsons, all of the same family, were there also. I know that they were in Leadville in 1883-1900, but I believe that they were there earlier. I just can't pin them down. This is my Great Grandfather and his brothers and one sister. Oh, and my Great Grandmother, Hannah Lindahl. (Too early in the morning!!) Barb Durant in a chilly South Texas.
