How exciting to hear of such a great idea. I will do my best to let others know about this event by putting some information on my tree & emailing the family history societies I've been dealing with. Are you able to access my tree or do you need an invitation? Let me know if you do & I'll send you one. I really loved all of Ireland & it's people who were universally friendly, helpful & had a wonderful sense of humour. Here in Knockainey and Lough Gur we have just signed up to the Ireland Reaching Out project, which is basically doing ancestry research in reverse; we look for descendants of those who have left here, and invite them back for a Week of Welcomes in June. The IRO website is launching tonight actually; look at www.irelandxo.com. This is a national project, and we really hope to bring lots of our diaspora home, at least temporarily! Have you contact details for other ex Knockainey people? It would be great if you had, and you could ask them to contact us. We have a community office here, staffed by John and Anne Marie, and they'll be co-ordinating the week of welcomes event. Follow them on Facebook -Knockaineycommunity Council- and e mail knockaineycommunityoffice@gmail.com. I hope that we can stay in touch, Christine; many thanks for your prompt reply! I have only just returned home to Perth Western Australia after spending from March to Dec tourning in a motorhome & researching my family history all over Ireland & UK. I know that my ancestors mentioned in the previous post came from this Parish because of the Baptism records I found there. There is no mistake as I have researched & found an unbroken chain of Birth, Death, Marriage, Shipping & other records from myself through 5 generations in Australia to this couple who migrated to Australia in 1841 with their 3 oldest children - the ones baptised in St John's, Knockainey. I also found the baptism record for Terrance O'Brien's older brother Murtagh in 1811 at St John's Knockainey. I also have a record Ex Lewis 1837 stating that the Parish Priest for Knockainey & Patricks Well from 1826 - 1850 was J. O'Brien so it's possible he was a relation of Terence. Witnesses at their wedding in Bruff were Noleen Dooley & Daniel O'Brien. Spo! nsors at the baptism of their 3 children were James Real, Ellen Mortal, James Dineen, Bridget Fitzgerald, John O'Brien, Mary Gardiner. My tree is on Ancestry so you can see more detail there & my email address is robbins13@iinet.net.au Look forward to hearing from you. See below to view some names and information I transcribed from these payroll sheets and find out where I found these sheets. Payroll of the Climax Molybdenum Company - August 1947 In the Vancouver, BC, Canada art museum, Vancouver Artgallery, 750 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC., in the exhibit "from the collection: Unreal" which is showing from January 22 to September 5, 2011, there is a work by artist Graham Gillmore (b. 1963, Vancouver.) The title of this artwork is 'Help' and is dated 1998. The art is felt pen written and drawn over large sheets of paper (approximately 11" x 14") taped together. I am supposing that the artist found the papers as discards. Those pieces of paper are each titled "Payroll of the Climax Molybdenum Company." The dates I could read were August 21, 1947 and August 31, 1947, typed onto the pages. The names were typed down the left sides of the pages. The artwork is large, and I could not see all of the payroll sheets in detail. But I took some of my time to transcribe some of the names and occupations that I could read. There were 24 payroll sheets, four across and six down. Numbering across from left to right, I transcribed the names from part of sheet 9, all of sheet 13, and part of sheet 17. These were all on the left side of the artwork. I will list the names and the occupations listed for those names. There were further columns, with information concerning payroll, but I did not try to transcribe those numbers. Lake Pumpman, Trip. Opr., Pack Boss, and Dispatcher. There were columns with headings for the following deductions: O. A. M. Opr. I am sorry that I could not transcribe all of the names. There may also be names on the back side of the papers. It seems that the artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Vancouver Artgallery. But I am hoping that this information will be of interest to someone researching family history. I am in the Knockainey area at the moment researching so the info in your post was fascinating to me. My Johanna Dooley - details below was married in Bruff but her 3 firstborn children were all baptised in Knockainey. A local parish priest I visited said that women often returned to their parents home for the birth of their first child in particular & sometimes for the birth of other children. I am searching for info on my ancestors - Terence O'Brien born abt 1815 married to Johanna Dooley - Bruff 1836. TOB son of Daniel OB & Catherine Carroll. Johanna daughter of James Dooley & Ellen Conner. Traced baptism of TOB & JOB 3 chld 1836,37,39 to St Johns RC Church, Knockainey - sponsor to one child's baptism is James Dineen. Also found baptism record in same church records for older brother of Terence -Murtagh.bapt 1811 My tree is on ancestry. Do you have any info to share that may help me or any people you can suggest who may have info? Also a local historian & archeologist - Michael Quinlan lmquinlan@eircom.net has done a lot of work in this area & is transcribing the tombstones in St Johns Graveyard in Knockainey. Cheers. He died in Denver on 15 April 1961 and was married but they had no children."
