Janice & Gail, I wish this technology had been in the library 10 years ago. Gail, you told me before our 1st trip to CO in 2000 that there was an Omohundro in BV. Turned out to be my husband's last living aunt. I think it was 2003 when she was 84 we took her back to Leadville to reminisce. What a wealth of information she was as we passed homes and businesses! Sadly she passed away a couple years ago. She, her husband Arthur, his brother, Sidney Omohundro had lived in Leadville about 60 to 70 years ago. I don't know, I wasn't around then. It is my goal to gather as much history as possible. We recently got a grant from the Griswold Trust to purchase equipment to record oral histories. We have done a few so far. We have video and audio equipment. We are looking for people who would like to share their memories either on film or on audio. Either way is fine. I have also digitized some of the reel to reel tapes I found in the library. You can listen to them on our oral history page. http://www.lakecountypubliclibrary.org/Oralhistories.html I am in awe of all of the great work that you do, Gail. You are a treasure. That's ok, all the stuff of Kate O'Brien's, the daughter of Judge O'Brien, that I tried to give to the library when I was told the library didn't want it and was told to take all the stuff to the historical society, the lady at the historical society left me with the feeling of, "What do you want me to do with all this stuff" and I felt bad for the lady that sent it to me who wanted it all returned to Leadville. I have often wondered it they did anything with it or did it make its way to the round file. g On Tue, Mar 26, 2013 at 8:27 PM, t <slyasafox14k@aol.com> wrote: > I'm sorry Gail, I thought you knew. Thank you for the update. There is no way anyone would know that Nancy is still not associated with the library unless the list was told. Amy, I have a gentleman who contacted me about the pictures and says that you have a picture of his great uncle and wants to connect with you. Is it ok to give him your email address? The library wouldn't take all the photos that were donated by a person, they told me to take them to this historical society. Please do. I donated many several years ago, some unidentified. It would be nice to be able to go through the pictures to see if any are relevant to their family history. -----Original Message----- From: colake-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:colake-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Amy Lucas Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 9:00 AM To: colake@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [COLAKE] Amy Lucas Yes I am. Yes I am. I still have all those Leadville photos. If I want to donate them, would the library be the best place? Amy is you are still on the list, will you please email me. Thanks, Gail -- A fool is not a man that makes a mistake, but a man that knows his mistake and continues to make it. "Benjamin Franklin"

She was born in Leadville; her family immigrated from Finland around 1890. She would have been around 18 when your grandparents married. Ella married my grandfather, Victor Kling, around 1920. A year or so later they moved to Englewood, CO (their house is still there, about 10 blocks from where I live). Ella died in 1935. Victor immigrated from Finland when he was 15 and eventually ended up in Leadville where he worked in the silver mines. Victor was a roomer in the same house as Ivan Santikko, along with Gust Hakala and Frank Guonoa (this is from the 1920 census). From what I can tell, they immigrated through Pennsylvania (PA). There is a Facebook page sponsored by the Lake County Historical Society entitled "Colorado Mountain History Collection." It has pictures and more info about Finntown. I hope you get this info and that it helps in your search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
