NANCY married a GEORGE WOOD in 1832 and they had many children. I cannot find much on this line. Family legend has it that Nancy was killed at Mountain Meadows (1857) with some of her children. I cannot find where she or George Wood are buried in Arkansas. Two of their sons married Dixon gals, but cannot identify them. I would appreciate anyone who can help me with this line of Cokers. Thanks, Lynn-Marie
Lynn-Marie, I've been working on this line for some time. I've been in contact with some of the Wood family researchers and just got a chance this past Monday to visit central Arkansas. However, what I've got doesn't quite mesh with what you're saying. I have Nancy as a daughter of William "Buck" Coker. Note that the source below lists her as a daughter of Edward "Ned". I'm It is often confusing since these names repeat. Is your Jane--Mary Jane born 1806? who married Charley Sneed? Or someone else? I've got tons of stuff--most of which I haven't had time to organize or verify. I'm descended from George W. Wood and Nancy Coker through their daughter Jane, who married "Dud" or Strander. From History of Marion County, Earl Berry 1977 Marion County Historical Association p. 273-- "George Wood, son of Judge William Sr., married Nancy Coker, daughter of Ned Coker, one of the pioneer Cokers of Marion County. their descendants were: Dicie, who married James Laremore...who had Martha Jane, who married Cyrus (Si) Wilson, who became parents of Dora B., who married Will Patterson; Elder John T., who married Reese Young; Keisie, who married Mary Ebee. George's daughter "Janie" married "Dud" Coker; Hard married a daughter of John Dixon; Hard's brother, Ned, also married a Dixon; Goerge, Jr. joined the Federal Armey and went to Texas after the war; Sarah Ann married Elihu Henderson; Winnie married a Stalcup; Patsy never married; William and Soloman were killed in the Mountain Meadow Massacre on their way to California. Winnie's children were: George, who never married, and Rachel Ann, who was the first wife of John Hampton." 1860 Census Marion Co. Ark. Wood, George 54 $1500/1858 TN Nancy 49 TN children all born Ark Elizabeth 24 G.W. 18 John H. 17 Sarah A. 13 Edward 9 Charity 7 John W.E. 4 Let me know more about your Jane and Nancy and I'll try to help out.
