Dear List: In trying to locate information on "my" William Coker b. ca 1786 NC (m. Leanna Brazeale, ends up in Monroe Co., MS), I wrote to the NARA for a file on a William Coker who served in the War of 1812 from SC in Nash's Regiment (SC Volunteers). It took me over a year and 3 tries before I finally got anything back, but I have the file and :( it's not my William! But I know he belongs to someone out there! So I thought I'd give you all a little belated Christmas gift and share some of what's in his file, in hopes that I can find a "real" home for it! --------------- Excerpts from the Declaration of William Coker dated Nov 14, 1850... State of Alabama, County of Shelby aged fifty-eight years and a resident of the County of Bibb, State of AL... volunteered at Greenville District, SC abt. Jan 1814 for six mos... honorably discharged at ?[can't make out] SC on 22 July 1814 purpose - obtaining bounty land... ------ State of AL, Tuscaloosa County 20 March 1855 appeared William Coker of the County of Tuskaloosa, state of AL, same William Coker who served (same dates above) Nash's Regiment, etc. Has sold his warrant and does not remember the number of it.... ------- There are a number of other documents but none have any further info except more details of his service. Is anyone interested in copies of any of these documents? Please let me know! All the best, Allison M.
