For some time now, I have been trying to figure out the apparent connection between Cokers and Phillips in Franklin Co. GA. In particular, I have been investigating the following events: 20th August, 1841 Franklin Co. GA:: Deed from John Watson, Junior to Charlotte Coker mentions "Augusta Road bounded east by Mary Coker" 1841 Franklin Co. GA: Deed from Thomas Haynes to Thomas P. and John Phillips says "Polly Phillips adjacent Mary Coker" (although neither Mary/Polly Coker nor Mary/Polly Phillips show up in 1840 Franklin Co. census) Aug 7, 1846 Franklin Co. GA: Charlotte Coker m. Francis Phillips 1850: can find no Francis or Charlotte Phillips in GA, but in Monroe Co. TN: F. M. Philips 21 M student GA (Is the F. M. for Francis Marion?) Charlottte 28 F GA George 11 M GA Then, in 1860 Towns GA: George Philips M 21 GA Caroline 17 F GA Charlotte 40 F TN (I believe that this is the same family from 1850, minus F. M. and with George now married.) On May 12, 1862 a George R. Philips enlists in Co. G, 34th GA Infantry in Franklin Co. GA. All the rest of the Philips in this unit are kin to Williamson Phillips from Franklin. George dies in Lexington KY in September, 1863 and his widow is a Caroline. After the war, I can not find any Charlotte or Caroline Phillips who match the ones from 1860 Towns. If anyone can shed any light on any of these people, I would be very appreciative. Cynthia
