Thanks, Beth. I had pretty much eliminated him also but it is good to have a second opinion. I'm looking at a possible connection to Asa COKER who was in Union Parish at the same time, but haven't found anything as of yet. Beth Gay wrote: >Sorry I searched and searched but found nothing. I have wondered that myself, Dwight, but I don't think I was able to find the family in 1860, etc. I would have to find my notes and look again. I believe there are Seaborn COKERS living in the same area as Alphin in later censuses and that was further consideration for 'Dolphia' being 'Alphin'. Also, an S. D. COKER (some of the records show L. D. COAKER) served in the same Company with him in the Civil War and I thought that he could have been 'Seaborn'. Does anyone have an S. D. COKER or L. D. COKER in their database who lived in Rapides Parish, LA? I'm speculating it is the same person but of course cannot be absolutely sure. Thanks to everyone for your help.
