    2. Joseph Coker's Will dated 20March1792 Laurens Co. SC. mentions his wife, Mary and sons Drury, Calvin, Thomas & John (youngest). Mary is left the estate and her sons are left a horse, cow and calf, etc. Why.....because they were too young, yet to inherit the plantation. Elbert Co. Ga Will Book C-1, page 202-2/22/1805. Will of Chas (x) Gary. Leg: Friend Milley Coker: natural dau Cassandry Coker. Ex. Friend Drury Coker & bro David Garey. Wit. John Coker, Wm Gary, John Armstrong. ( I don't have the image of this will and don't know if this is all there is to it., this info came from an index of Wills in Elbert Co. Ga. I have always suspected that this Milley Coker is the widow of Joseph, Sr d. 1774 in Chatham Co. N.C. Milley Coker is found on tax records with Joseph Coker in 1781 Surry Co. NC. Joseph Coker, Sr and Milly (Mildred) had sons, Issac (my direct line) Jacob, Malachi, and Abraham, as we know were indentured in Chatham Co. and I suspect that Joseph Coker (1792) is their older brother who was too old to be indentured at the time. Drury and John would be the grandsons to Milly Coker, widow to Joseph, Sr. After their father's death, perhaps they lived with grandmother. Joseph Coker, Jr' s Will (1792) does not mention a daughter, not to confuse Milley as the sister to John and Drury. Does anyone know if Calvin, Drury, Thomas and John had proven siblings???who were older?? or if they had sisters. Myrna Jackson Findlay

Well, we are really getting into an area that has no documents that prove anything. I have been working on the John (youngest son) thing for 30 years. I have copies of the 1792 will and all the deeds, etc. Nothing ever puts the final stamp on it. The Coker researchers of the 1920's and 1930's strongly believed that Joseph Coker (1792 will) had several daughters who were not named. I have the names in file, but it's too late tonight to start diggin. I believe my Coker line comes down from John (youngest son). His wife was named Dicey. She shows up on 1810 Laurens census as head of house with three males who are apparently sons, John, James and Joseph. John (the youngest son) had died before 1810. The son John never married and ended up in Texas in 1834. He received bounty land located seven miles north of downtown San Antonio for fighting at Battle of Jacinto in 1836 when Santa Anna was defeated. His brothers James and Joseph arrived in Texas about 1846 with their families. I descend from Joseph who is buried at our Coker Cemetery - part of the same bounty land. The other brother, James, with his family stayed in Cherokee Co TX. When John died a deed was produced showing he had divided the land evenly between James and Joseph. Why do I claim this John (youngest son) was married to Dicey and had the three sons? As we know in research Isaac Malcolm Dial married Coker daughters, one the dau of Drury and it is geting too late to look up the other, but the dau's were first cousins. In a letter written by James L. Dial in 1865, (son of Isaac Malcolm Dial), he refers to the Joseph and John Coker living in the San Antonio area as his cousins. Dial was living 30 miles outside San Antonio at the time. That's all I can cover tonight - getting late. I will be happy to discuss this - maybe someone has that document that will solve this puzzle.
