C. early 1800 probably around 1830. Children were Maggie, Liza, Polly, Dempsey, Jeff, Louis and John( this is my gggrandfather).

I am not sure where this message came from or if someone is also seeking information on the Coker/Ellisons of Mississippi. I have no proof of the family of Dempsey Coker, b circa 1800, but I think his father may have been Joseph Coker who appears in the 1790 census of NC Burke county. He had a brother Charles and nephews, William, Charles, and Leonard. Joseph Coker had three sons: Charles, William and Joseph. I believe that the elder Joseph was Joseph Dempsey as the name appears in the progeny of many of his grandchildren. I believe our Dempsey was the son of one of these sons, probably Charles as he named one of his sons Charles. Joy Coker
