    1. Coker family in McMullen Co., TX
    2. There was a Coker family in McMullen County, Texas in the mid to late 1800s. I have pulled up the links to any Coker information if anybody is interested in this Coker family. A note before you start. McMullen County was created in 1856, but not until 1877 was it officially organized. Prior to 1877 records for McMullen County citizens are most likely to be found in Live Oak County and some records, such as marriage are also found in Atascosa County. The Coker family in San Antonio, as you probably know, is descended from Joseph Coker who is buried at the Coker Cemetery. From this family I cannot see any relationship to Lena. However, we never know what being "related" might mean. The 1880 census of Hopkins Co (Sulphur Springs TX) shows a George W. Coker age 25 born TN and wife Balzonia age 21 born TN; no children. It also shows a W.M. Coker age 62 born AL and wife Sarah age 59 born MS. Living with them is a Caroline Johnson, relationship called "other" age 27 born MS and young male Willie Johnson age10 born MS, relationship "other". Then one g-son Isaac Coker age 7, born TX. I don't know if this helps any or not. As you can see in this 1880 census, we cannot identify your William and Jane, but they could have died before the census. This Caroline Johnson could be a widowed/divorced niece to W.M. or Sarah. Next door on the census to W.M. Coker & family is J. L. Coker age 32 born MS and wife Elizabeth age 33 born AR. They have three daus showing all born TX and listed by initials only: M.A., A.L. and S.I. ages 5 down to 9 months. Let me know if this gives any clues. Also let me know if you have come across any of these surnames in Sulphur Springs: Moore, Jones, Goodwyn, McMeans or Capps.
