I'm from Thomas Coker son of Joseph & Mary. I think the new researchers don't go through the years of discussion on this site where some of the data has already discussed in great detail.Unless a new sources of documents are discovered we have talked about those that have been available todate. Most of the researcher today don't want to do detailed research on their own at archives. Everyone must reminder that less than 25% of data available is on the Internet. We need everyone looking for Proof on the Data they have. On the John Coker that we were discussing I have five of them that share the same documention and all going in different directions. There were not that many John Cokers at that time in the same location. We are always looking for new documents. I have almost completed the entering of all the census data and copies of all Cokers in US Census data in to my database. Would anyone on this list know anything about a James Coker, born 1812 in North Carolina. Wife Ellen, also born 1812 in North Carolina. They appear in the 1850 census of Madison County, TN, with four boys, Alexander, John, James R.W., and Samuel J. Living close by is a John Coker, age 68, Baptist minister and a Rebecca, age 80, both born in North Carolina. I am wondering if John is the father of James and who is Rebecca; maybe John's Mother? Any input appreciated. Becky

Hello! Nice to know you have awakened.:) Why did Dicey go back to Laurens SC.? "It is doubtful since she is said to be living in Jackson Co GA when she (And Children) came back to argue her case in Laurens". Dicey never returned to GA. Why? Dicey (ticklish and ever changing) is a nickname for Nancy is from Ann/Anne. You are right about more documentation is needed but these assumptions family stories can not be over looked as pure wrong information. Some parts are correct some not so correct and some just plain made up. Since i am in you line I try to keep in line with your thinking but do not totally dismiss other data not totally proven. We are still searching and recording of facts. I read this on another site and it fits. I though I would repeat it on this site. Message Board Post: This is not a criticism. But, most of these early genealogies are confabulations that are created from a variety of records. They are often not fact but speculation. It doesn't mean they are substantively wrong either, but if you can find one that is 80% correct it is a good thing. David Dwight Stipes
Are any of these Cokers related to John Michael Coker who was married to Susanna. John Michael died 1799. Do not know is ages but his children were grown and married and their children were almost grown. Paula Researching Sextons, Cokers and Piersons

She was born >Bef. 1790 in GEORGIA, and died Bet. 1809 - 1880. Dwight, I don't know who wrote this, but in the #16. John9 Coker above, I really have to question the accuracy without documentation. Our Coker Clan (San Antonio) claims the above John9 was the father of John b.ca1789, James b.1797 and Joseph b. 1799. His wife was named Dicey ??. Dicey appears in the 1810 Laurens SC census with 3 males. There were several John Cokers in the early Laurens time-frame. One was married to a Nancy ?? based on her claim of dower rights on property they had sold in the late 1700's. Is Dicey the same as Nancy? It is doubtful since she is said to be living in Jackson Co GA when she came back to argue her case in Laurens. Another John Coker was a Justice of the Peace in Laurens around 1800. We know that John9 was related to Isaac Malcolm Dial by Dial's marriage to two Coker cousins from Joseph8' family. This is proven by a letter written in 1861 by James Laurens Dial, son of Isaac Malcom, to a brother in which he acknowledges the Cokers living in San Antonio (John and Joseph) were his "kin". Joseph8 above did not name his daughters in his will of 1792. There were several researchers in the 1930's who have passed on now that claimed he had about 5. We know of one, Jeanette. I am presenting this in a nutshell without looking up my references, so I apologize if I didn't cover more detail. There just aren't many documents that prove anything after the will of Joseph8 in 1792. Maybe a "novel" is the best way to present it as long as everyone knows it's a novel and not necessarily fact. I still enjoy the search for that one missing document that will clear things up a little bit.
No, there is no direct connection to Annie Ratliff . There may be some remote branch the connects but to date it is unknown. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Youngmuscat1@aol.com> To: <COKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2005 11:49 AM Subject: Re: [Coker] Novel about Cokers > Dwight. Dwight. I have grandparents down the line by the name of Joseph and Annie Coker. They had a daughter Rebecca that married William Daniels. Rebecca is buried in a Coker family cemetery in Oklahoma. Her daughter Missouri Ann is buried in our Ball cemetery in Oklahoma. She is my greatgrandmother. Her daughter Lydia, my grandmother, and my mother are also buried there. Do you have anything to show if this is the same Annie Ratliff Coker? I do not have a last name for Annie, so I am hoping it is. Joseph was the son of William "Buck" Coker. I would appreciate any help. Thank you Patsy Young
