Surnames: Coker/McCuen/Davenport Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BVJ.2ACIB/687.717.1 Message Board Post: James Boyce McCuen, Sr, born ca. 1804 married Matilda Coker, born 12/27/1805 and they had at least 2 children: James Boyce, Jr. born in 1844 and Nancy Caroline, born in 1846. Nancy married Milton Moseley Manly in 1865 and James Boyce, Jr. married Catherine (Katie) Davenport in 1866. James and Katie had many children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Jesse, who died in a mill accident. Please let me know if you have some specific information to help me trace Katie Davenport and Matilda Coker back a little. I have much more information on the McCuens but need more regarding both of the James Boyce McCuens. Thank you for your assistance.

    3. Issac Coker is my ggg-grandfather. He left Elbert County in the 1820's, along with all of his sons -- James, Elisha, Henry, John and William. I don't think your James F. Coker is a grandson of Issac. He is probably the grandson of one of Issac's brothers -- Abraham, Jacob or Malachi. I'm pretty sure he is not related to Abraham, as his two sons moved to Kentucky, so your most likely suspects are Jacob and Malachi. Issac Coker did have a grandson named James F. Coker. He was my great-grandfather (a son of Henry Coker). He was born in Upson County, GA in 1836 and lived in Sumter County, GA from 1842 until his death in 1899. He was in the 11th Georgia Artillery Battalion, CSA. I don't have my records handy, but I think Jacob Coker may have had a grandson named James who was the son of his son Newell. There are a bunch of Jacob Coker descendants out there who are on this list, so they should be able to help. 2. Hi Elizabeth, Also note that David Crumpton & Benjamin Davenport also patented land in the same township, Sec 34 in 1886. They had homesteaded at some earlier date. William Crumpton first patented land in this township in 1835. Frances Coker married Willis Davenport in Greenville Co, SC. The Davenports and Crumptons were next door neighbors in Greenville Co. Frances Coker is thought to be a sister of William Coker. Regards, Stan Coker

    3. This may help someone regarding the Bibb County, AL William Coker and wife, Jemima. Record located Bibb CH: "Direct Index to Conveyances of Real Estate", Book G, Page 506 - Jemima and William C. Coker granted (sold) to Jared Coal Co. 30 April 1853. Bibb County Tract Book shows the land sold by Wm. C. and Jemima Coker to be described as follows: E 1/2 of NW 1/4, Sec. 30, Twp 23, R 12E; and NE 1/4 of SE 1/4, Sec. 25, Twp 23, R 11E. The initial "C" may be something new and the land sale may be a clue as to when William and Jemima left Bibb. They have not been located on Bibb US Census for 1860. Elizabeth Jones

    2. Hi Dwight, >From my notes: The William Coker, son of Thomas Coker & Sarah Clark, born 25 May, 1786, is the William B Coker who married Lennah Brazeal, daughter of Joel Brazeal. This William also lived in Bibb Co, AL, at the same time as the other William and Jemina. Wm B is later found in Monroe Co, MS. This Wm B and his father Thomas are found earlier in Pendleton Co, SC. Lennah Brazeal's father was Joel Brazeal who made his will in Jefferson Co, AL, and clearly identifies his daughter Lennah Brazeal. Wm B and Lennah had a son Joel. Because of mispellings in the census records of Bibb Co I believe it is possible for people to miss the two William Cokers there and it is very easy to associate the adult children with the wrong parent. I believe it takes a careful study of marriages and next door neighbors to sort the children out. Best regards, Stan

    3. Hi Stan, I haven't talked to in a while. I got some of this info from you. I have Leonard but data are off a lot. I do not have Andrew listed???? There is even more info that is and has been attached that I have keep out of my files. If there is some difference that what you have please let me know. From: Dan Crumpton to Dwight I am searching for the father or siblings of William Coker, born about 1790 in NC. He married my Jamima "Mima" Crumpton,( born 1798 Greenville County, SC). They married in Greenville Co., SC or Bibb County, AL. Their children: Emory (?) born abt 1829 in Alabama Joseph 1832 Leonard 1834 " William 1837 " Richard 1839 In the Fork Shoals Baptist Church membership list, Greenville County, SC., a number of my Crumptons were members, and I also find Jemiah Cooker. I believe this to be my Jemima Coker. My Jemima (Jamima)(Mima) Crumpton, born 23 Feb 1798 in Greenville County, SC, and married William Coker, born 1790. My Jamima and William Coker moved to Bibb County, AL. Some have suggested that Thomas Coker who died in 1818 in Bibb Co., AL. may be the father of William. Thanks.
