    2. Hi Gang, Just got back from Arizona--no luck, it was cold there also ! Anyway, Rev. James William Harvey Coker , buried at Red Bank Cemetary, Servier Co. Tenn. is my Great Grandfather. He was "quite" a guy, very beloved, and also very nice looking by the pictures I have of him. If anyone wants me to post more on him, let me know. Noni Sawyer of the "freezing" high desert of So. 2. SUSAN K HUDSPETH
    3. Hi all, I need some help. I'm trying to join the DAR with Patriot Jonathan CLOWER, my 3rd gr-grandfather. I need documentation that will show the children of his son, James Lawrence Samuel Butts CLOWER and wife, Fatha Ann COKER. My ancestor was their daughter, Martha A. (Mattie) CLOWER. The DAR already has the info on Martha's sister, Mary Jane CLOWER, who married John Alexander HOGUE. I just need to document that Martha and Mary Jane were sisters. This has been harder than it should be, it seems. Does anyone have any documentation or any ideas that would help? The only census that I can find showing both sisters living with their parents is the 1860, and the census-taker just used initials. Thanks, Susan Hudspeth [email protected]

    3. Claiborne Coker -- father of James Wesley Coker -- was the son of Abraham Coker (not Issac). Issac and Abraham were brothers -- both sons of Joseph and Mildred Coker. Abraham's will names Claiborne and Dennis as his sons. 3. I'm still stuck on finding the parents of Strander "Dud" Dudley of Sugarloaf Township, Boone Co. Arkansas. I did finally get a copy of the 1850 census that has him with Edward Coker age 19 and Susan Bridgeman and some other supposed siblings. Back in 1998 or 99 someone mentioned that Susan Coker had married a Mr. Bridgeman. Others have said I should look for Leonard Coker in Knox Co. Tennessese. I'm at a loss. Has anyone researching this line found any documents on the marriage, death, birth, wills, tax records, land records etc. that reveal anything about this family? I'm near a very good library for research I just need to know what we already know and where I might look to find something else. Any help appreciated. Laura Coker-Garcia

    1. [Coker] White River Coker Story
    2. Laura D. Coker-Garcia
    3. I found a Coker story in the book Ozark Pioneers their Trials and Triumphs by Bob Hinds printed 1999 by Bob Hinds. I purchased the book in a truck stop in Springfield, Missouri. The book concerns the history of the Hutton Valley, Missouri area, which is in the south central part of Missouri. It includes material from many sources mentioning many families, but it is not indexed. It also has genealogy of the following families: Smith, Gulley, Hood, Hinds, Ogle, Bryan, Godsy, Stringer, and Alsup. The Coker story is titled "Off The Cliff" and is an account from "Col. Monks," who I take to be William Monks, who was in the Union Army during the Civil War. The story is in the section of the book relating to the West Plains area of Missouri. Notes in "The White River Chronicles of S.C. Turnbo" mention that William Monks wrote a history of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and this story may be copied from that work. The story tells of the "Cokers and Hogans who had been intimate friends." One day there came trouble between Coker and one of his brothers in law and Hogan and Coker went to the brother in laws house. It ends up with the Cokers chasing Hogan onto a bluff and over it into the White River. No first names are given but it does say "Coker, being a cousin of the Indian Cokers." If you want to the complete story sent to you privately I will do so.

    3. Eliza or Liza Coker was the daughter of Dempsey Coker and Margaret (Polly Ellison) of Yazoo county, MS Dempsey and Polly were in MS by 1820. There are numerous land records that show them both signing. Polly was the duaghter of Johnathan Ellison and his wife Susan Poore. I have e xtensive information about the Ellisons but can trace Dempsey no further back. He is said to have come from SC. I have some theories but no proof. At this very moment I cannot find my Coker book which contains all my research, but it's here somewhere. The Liza that I have was born around 1830. Joy in Alabama
