No, I don't believe that he would be the right person. I believe that my Mary Coker (born around 1860-1870) was born around Walton County Georgia. Mary may have just liked the name Emory. Thanks again for your efforts. Pat

He is a descendant of James A. Coker listed below: Children of Newell & Catherine Coker (note: Newell is the son of Jacob Coker, Jacob was brother to my ggg-grandfather Isaac Coker) -- Charity (born 1831) Jacob W. (born 1831) Henry F. (born 1836) Reubin M. (born 1837) James A. (born 1838) Elizabeth (born 1841) William G. (born 1848) He says that Newell & Catherine married in Elbert County in 1825, but had relocated to Habersham County by 1838. Jacob, Henry, Reuben and James all fought with the 24th Georgia Infantry. He says that Henry died of disease in 1862 near Williamsburg, VA. I'm not sure if this is your Henry or not? His is Henry "F" not Henry "E", and also says his Henry was born in Franklin County. Oh well, it was pretty close anyway -- same name, birth year and ties to Elbert County.

My GGfather Henry E. born November 13, 1836 in Georgia must be related to this family because of the similiarities of naming children. His daughter, My Grandmother was Hattie Jane Coker, born August 8, 1878 in Spring Place, Ga and is one of 2 children of Henry that did not migrate to Texas around 1900 to Moody and Waco. I do not know what the E. stands for nor do I know for sure his mothers name but she lived to be 100 years and at that time her house burned to the ground in Elbert Co. Ga. I know very little about my ancestors. My Dad filled out a page in my Masonic bible in 1971 and had it Notarized stating that his Grandfather was full blood Cherokee Indian. It is evident that we have Indian blood but that too has not been proven. My GGfather was a fiddler who also made the fiddles before he went into the war in 1862. His two sons Walter and Bart were fiddlers also. Emory/Emery is a name that is in my wife's Coker family although I don't show any Henry E. and the only Mary I have is a Mary Burk who married a William Jasper Coker in Kerr Co., Texas. Her grandmother, Mildred Marie Leddy (her mother was a Coker) who is 95, has always said there is Indian blood in her family but I have yet to prove it. Her Coker line goes like this: Addie Jane Coker, b. 1-June-1887 in Kerr Co., TX mar. Edward Omega Leddy - James Emery Coker, b. April -1860 in Louisiana mar. Anna Emery - - Emery Coker, b. circa 1829 in Alabama mar. Could the E be for Emory? Mary Coker Summerville died in Griffin and was born probably around the 1860's or so. Emory Spear was her only child. Her parents were supposed to have a great deal of indian blood. I think that she had a brother. I know that she was very tough and liked to either drink or make moonshine. This was straight from the lips of my 93 year old great aunt Mary Lee Elzoria Coker Minter (another Mary). I wish I knew more but I can't help but think that Emory was a family name. We believe that he was born out of wedlock. Thanks again, Pat

I have about decided that my James Washington Coker was adopted and no one knew about it to write it down. I know he was born in South Carolina, according to all the census records, in 1800/1801, dependending on when the census was taken as I have no month of birth. But he was in Washington County, Alabama in 1830. In Greene County, Mississippi in 1840, 1841 and 1845. In 1850, James was in Choctaw County, Alabama. ( I understandd that Washing Co and Choctaw Co changed bounderies several times.....starting out as Indian lands, so the family may or may not have moved.) He is not listed in the 1860 census, only his widow and some children, in Bowie County, Texas. He married Amelia Dunbar (Milly) February 8, 1827 in Washington County, Alabama. Milly's parents and grand parents were living there at that time, also. Their children were Young Jackson, Henry D., Matilda, William S., and Fremont (? as spelling on image is not clear.) Amelia is in Bowie county with two young children, probably grandchildren, or another two that were born between 1850 and 1860, before James W. died. As I said, the image is unclear, but it looks like a boy aged 10, W.F., and a girl aged 8, M. B. I've been reading the Coker archives for the past several days, and this one says James Washington belongs to the Thomas/Margaret Jones family; another says he's the s/o Dempsy; ;another says he belongs to Peyton. I could really use some help here. Maybe he was just adopted somewhere along the line!

His dad's name was Emory Spear Coker (unsure of where he was born but the year was 1886). His mother was Mary Coker, unsure of the father. I noticed A Solomon on the census in Walton. Could there be a connection? My great Aunt's, Ruby and Elzoria, still live in the area.
